Thanks Sary, that was really helpful and I've just signed up and had a quick bash.
Though, I'm not quite sure how I'd work out how much butternutsquash was going into the soup, unless I weighed it once I had de-seeded and skinned the thing! Going to have to make a concentrated effort!
I do have oatcakes in the cupboard, that I was going to use with stovies but I don't think they are 43calories each.....be nice with a big slab of cheese on it....Sssssssh.
I didn't eat anything today until 11ish, which was 2 bits of toast with wafer thing ham.
Has anyone noticed that the bread LOVE TO TOAST, I think it's Kingsmill, goes MOULDY within 2days? OH is forever buying it and I go nuts because if it isn't eaten within 2days, you can bet anything it will start going mouldy.
Costs about £1.50 too! Oh for the days of happy shopper 18pence bread....0 -

It sounds like it would, but no, it doesn't take any time at all really.
I have a cheap pair of scales (£6 from Instore) that have a flat glass weighing surface, so I just put a bowl on there, set the mark to zero, and add as I go along. I only had to weigh everything out the once, to know my amounts/calories. I know an almost full scoop of porridge oats is 45g. I use sweetener, but actually counted the cals of sugar (3tsp), use mainly hot water, with a dash of 1% fat milk, and then it all gets added up for a meal. Then all I do each day is add the created meal 'breakfast', and that's my cals logged for that meal.
This lunchtime I put a bowl on the scales, put 150g plain yogurt, zero'd the scales, added some strawberries, zero'd the scales, added a banana. The benefit is I know exactly how many cals I've had, and there's nothing left to chance, which is where I've gone wrong before, as I'm sure there were lots of hidden cals I wasn't aware of, or was just leaving to chance.
Yes Buttons, I do weigh out most things as I go along, but as my scales are such a breeze to use, it's a matter of seconds to pop them on, and plop them in the pot.
I did it mainly because I prefer to cook from scratch, and it's so much cheaper. It takes a bit of time to hunt things down to begin with, but add them to your 'favourite foods' and they're there in your food log.
Last night I weighed out my dry pasta portion, and wanted to check how much an individual meatball weighed (as you do!), but it helped me keep my portion size under control (I would usually have a mahoosive portion of pasta), and calculating the calorie value of the beef meatball, made me opt to have the quorn ones at 20 cals per ball.
I've been consistently losing this way, for longer than I would have previously, so I'm convinced it's keeping me on track. Why not try it for a week and see how you do?One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

You need to invest in a breadmaker! I could make about 10 loaves of bread for £1.50!! That's daylight robbery, when did bread go up so much? The only time I buy bread from a store is if I see the loaves/rolls reduced like the other night when they were 5p a go.
I have plain oatcakes, but they're a bit hard going, and unappetising (without cheese), but the oat biscuits they do (I get mine in Sainsburys) are lovely with a cuppa, they do ginger, mixed berries, and fruit & berries. They're a biscuit compromise, as the oats make them complex carbs.
Make sure you aren't going too long without food Buttons, if I do that I tend to get over hungry, and it can lead to me needing to eat fast, and making a bad choice. Your body needs breakfast to kick-start your metabolism - I know this because my OH nags me about it (he's a fitness nutrition guru)!:rotfl:One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

That was my first thought - I'm sure my ex work colleague who was diabetic got help with her contact lenses.
Also, when I last got a pair of glasses (Oct/Nov 08) I went to Specsavers and bought a pair of buy 1 get 2nd pair free - when I said I didn't really want a 2nd pair the nice young lad discounted them for me - in total I paid £57.
They are quite trendy too.

Sary - I would actually buy a breadmaker (I hang around the OS forum, thanks to them I have a slow cooker!) but the bread I've tasted from OH's mum (breadmaker made) was like a rock! Would of cost me more in dental treatment than buying shop bought!
Yep bread like Kingsmill, hovis, warburtons are all WELL over £1, the lidls beside me do OK bread at 45p a loaf, but it's closed for them to build an extension, I've noticed my shopping this month has increased by loads, since I'm having to buy my fruit & veg + meat from Asda!
Well I do normally eat breakfast, but DD loves her sleep, so do I, and normally she isn't up till around 10 (bliss!) so by the time I've fed and watered her, pottered around a bit, it's already 11!
I've ordered some yoghurts to be delivered tomorrow anyways just so I have something to snack on if the munchies hit me. More of a savoury person though.
I'm trying to cut down on carbs as I'm sure they are evil, but they just taste so delicious. I'm a crisp-a-holic. Back in my fatdays, I could EASY eat a 12pack and THEN eat a big pasta dinner. What a fatty!0 -

No I asked that apparently you can if you are income support, dole, beniefits and I am not on any of them even though I guess I am entitled out of work and can claim disability but never have done because don't think I should, annoying when it comes to help with glasses and annoying when I wanted to sign up for all the courses and have to pay loads so much so I ended up not doing them, just couldn't afford it:rolleyes:0 -

Freeze it, I do, get the pieces of bread when you need it, the toaster has a frozen button on it and then there is no waste:D0
