    1lb loss for me

Sorry I missed last weeks weigh-in - had a nightmare of a week - Grandad fell on Monday night - paramedics came and decided no need for him to go to hospital, dr saw him on Tuesday and decided a trip to A&E was needed (cue 8 hours sitting with Grandad in A&E) he was then sent home, only to be admitted to hospital on Wednesday night so we spent 8 hours on Wednesday night trying to calm Grandad down enough to let the doctors take ECG etc.

He's still in hospital now, but last night we found out that my cousin and family in Marysville (Australia) have lost everything other than the clothes they're standing in due to bush fires.

At least everyone is safe and well.

Hope everyone else has a less eventful week.

Tuesday: Manual treadmill 30 mins (194 cal) and Weights 20 mins (0 cal)
Wednesday: Cross country snow jog 3 hours (1164 cal)
Thursday: Swimming - stroke improvement lesson 30 mins (204 cal)
    Friday: Rest
Saturday: Manual treadmill 30 mins (176 cal), Cross trainer 30 mins (194 cal) and Exercise bike 30 mins (176 cal)
Sunday: Yoga for abs 22 mins (0 cal) and Weights 24 mins (0 cal)

Total 8hrs 26 mins and 2735 calorie burn.

Haven't been on here for chatting lately because I am prioritising exercise/activity so posting over in that thread. Hope you are all keeping well and moving ever towards those targets!

Miserably announcing a 1lb gain  this week. Not 100% sure why but onwards and downwards and dropping into the next stone will have to wait till next week. Going to have some sugar free jelly to console myself!

    Hello all,
Feels like I've been away from the thread for ages, but it was last Thursday I'm sure! So many posts, newbies, news, etc.

*** long post alert *** skip post if you don't like ones that ramble ***

Starlight - I'm so sorry to hear about your grandad. I think you should probably be looking after yourself, and your family's needs right now, and not be worrying about weightloss so much. Just try to keep any cravings at bay, or watch for those comfort eating trigger moments. Actually, when I've been bereaved, I lost over a stone in weight, so it can go both ways! Thinking of you and yours right now.

Brightonman - welcome to the thread! Do you have a goal for your weightloss to aim at? Most of us have a larger, long-term goal that we're ultimately going to achieve (see, I didn't say 'hoping to'), but we break it down into less daunting, manageable chunks of 5lb per month. Do you fancy joining in our monthly challenge? Snacking is the curse of anyone trying to lose weight. You have to find some healthier snacking options, and make sure the unhealthy ones aren't easily available. I don't buy crisps in the house, or biscuits anymore. If anyone else wants them, they can nip to the shop for them! Funnily enough, they can't often be bothered, and have a healthier option too. My suggestion to start with would be to make a food diary. I do this every day still, and it really makes me accountable for what I eat. Check out page 1 of this thread for links to sites to help you count calories, or with meal plans, etc. Keep posting here, where there's oodles of support, guidance, encouragement and occasionally, hugs!

Natu - Welcome! Join in with the gang, and let us know how your weightloss plan progresses.

Chicksbabes - Welcome! My best friend has done Go Lower! (with some success), and whilst it is a healthier eating plan, and much better than the likes of Lighterlife, Cambridge diet or Slimfast, etc., you can replicate it at home much more cheaply, than buying in the meals/bars, etc. Go Lower just works on the principle of smaller portion sizes, and lower carb intake - it's that simple. You'll have already been told that certain foods have higher carbs than others, so you keep those either cut out of your diet for now, or limit the amount. With any plan like this, where your meals are pre-prepared, you aren't having to consider the ingredients yourself, etc., the problem will always come when you stop using the food packs. Far better for you to learn now how to make low fat/low carb meals for yourself really, and make that a plan for life, not just the next few months. My friend did lose about 4 stone on Go Lower, but that was after losing 6 stone with Lighterlife (and regaining it all & then some), but as soon as she's left to her own devices, the old eating habits can return, and when temptation is put in her way. Think about what your old eating habits have been. What is it about them that you need to change? It could be you snack on unhealthy things. Maybe you like a glass of wine or two? Perhaps you struggle in social settings to find healthy options, or just ignore them? My friend, who has done the plans, has had her own therapist to deal with her compulsive eating, which she finally recognised. Deeper down there were emotional issues that drove her eating, primarily it was a reward, comfort system. She ate when happy, sad, excited, depressed - she just ate, but she ate uncontrollably at times. Then starved herself, then lost control, ate too much, gave up for a while, then back on the wagon again, and so it continued... Why not try sharing your story with us here, and you'll get all the support you need. (sorry for the ramble).:o

Vix - I'm job hunting at the moment too. I think the main requirement for a doctor's receptionist, is to be able to stay composed in difficult situations, diplomatic, and above all, able to be completely confidential. Think about the fact that you may see a friend's boyfriend coming into the surgery, but your friend doesn't know about it. You can't mention having seen them, as it may not have been known about. You will also have to face people on the phone, and face to face who will be desperate to see a Dr, perhaps emotional, etc., and again, you're going to be on the frontline, and able to stay in control, and hopefully able to find a happy outcome to most situations. Bear things like this in mind, consider scenarios that may occur, in readiness for an interview. Good luck!

Mambury - I also have a July goal. My sister & b-i-l are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary, and are having a posh do at a hotel. I am hoping to go along, and wear a brand new outfit, and hope that it might even be a lovely summer dress. I was a toddler as a bridesmaid at their wedding, and there will be pictures on display no doubt. I don't want to be seen as the little sister who went from little blond princess to middle-aged heffer! :rotfl: I'll track my progress with you if you like. Always good to have a bit of an incentive to keep up with someone motivated, and you sounded motivated!!:T

Phew! Glad I got that out. Kids were at home most of last week due to the weather, and more snow forecast overnight here again! If I'm honest, I'm a bit bored of it now. What fell last Monday still hadn't melted, let alone the other stuff that fell on top of it. It's been bitterly cold too. I spent Friday morning clearing our paths, and those of my elderly neighbour, plus a bit on the pathway along the street - then it snowed again! 2 hours it had taken me! I ache so much from doing it too, what a workout!

Have been good foodwise, save for a bit too much carb on Friday, and then a major sugar dip as I did tea. Felt totally crapolla as a result. Need to keep my carbs complex, and then I feel fine. I am totally enjoying my treat of yogurt & tinned apples, it's like having apple pie & cream to me.

    Today's food:
    B - 2 crumpets
L - Roast beef dinner, veg, 2 yorkshires, no potatoes
D - not sure yet - probably soup, followed by yogurt & fruit

I am not going back home to my house tonight, as there is more bad weather on it's way (snowed already this afternoon), so another night @ the BF's house = bit more of a lie in, and a warmer bed because he's like a hot water bottle all night!:T

    Have a great week y'all

p.s. Buttons, thanks for your comments (I think!) I suppose you now think I look like the gorgeous Linda LaHughes from Gimme Gimme Gimme, eh? Well, actually, I'm just as gorgeous as she is, and suffer a bit from body dysmorphic disorder like her - I look in the mirror and see a fat person! 'Wos that all about?

What a dreadful week for you FS. I do hope your grandad is OK. Any ideas what might be the problem yet?

I was reading the news reports online about Marysville having just disappeared! What an awful situation. Truly devastating. So glad to hear your family members are safe and well.

I hope your next week proves to be less eventful too.

I Sarah-t, welcome to the thread!

I'm calorie counting too, but have also reduced my fat/carb intake along with it. I now don't eat any processed carbs, they have to be complex (wholewheat pasta, porridge, etc), which don't muck around with your insulin levels, therefore creating the sugar cravings you can get, which simply just make me want to eat more & more! Any fats I have are healthy fats, like olive oil. I don't have sandwiches anymore, so no need for butter/spreads. I don't buy any unhealthy snack foods anymore either. The whole family is benefitting (missing out?), so they don't get biscuits, cakes, buns, puddings. I have replaced them with lots of fruits, yogurts, I make flapjack with honey & added nuts & fruit. My snacks between meals are low fat yogurt, or mixed nuts.

Most people on here do find that including a bit of exercise into their week helps shift stubborn weight. There are lots of guys doing various DVD's, other's just find ways to incorporate a bit of walking, dancing, whatever, into their daily routine - even skipping in the back garden, or walking up/down the stairs. I'd say exercising on the carpet would be ideal, as it's a nice soft surface for kneeling or lying on. Have you considered looking for a cheap cross-trainer? The peeps on here will have lots of ideas for you. I know exercise can sound boring, but it is key to a healthier, slimmer lifestyle.

So, what are your goals? Maybe give us an idea of what you're eating each day? Are you keeping a food diary? I use the foodfocus website to track my eating, and makes me accountable of every morsel that passes my lips! very scary some days, but I try to plan my food each day, and I have to make choices about what I am/am not going to eat. So, like today, I've had 2 yorkshire puds with my dinner, but I didn't have any potatoes to counter those extra calories & carbs.

I used Slimfast a couple of years ago, but if you look at the ingredients, it's high in sugar if you eat the bars, the shakes are a bit better. There's a chance that if you eat too little your body will simply feel it's in starvation mode, and hold on to every single calorie it's having. Ensure you aren't going hungry. This will not be what your body will like, and will mean once you eat more calories, your body will store them in the most efficient way it knows possible, fat! Why not use this thread to help you, and log your daily eating plan, like Retiredlady and I do.

Don't get demoralised, and look at what other's are doing on here to help guide you. We're all more than happy to help!:D
