Wouldn't it be better just to slap a huge penalty to pay than to waste a house? Maybe the penalty could be the value of the house when it was unhidden along with a 4 years of community service.

I think it's wrong what he did and how he flaunted it on tv but at the same time, I hate to see it just get demolished.

Thats just how the property market works in the uk, prices would half if you just buy some land and build there. How crazy would that be :p

on the other hand this is how property is built in other less regulated countries -

    I give up...

I thought I'd made it clear before (along with help from several others above!).

Like seven-day-weekend says above, he's going through one final appeal at the moment - these appeals take ages (months!) - nobody can give a time or date as to when it will be demoished - it depends on the result of the appeal and when the appeal is decided. However like many people have said earlier in this thread, the appeal is a waste of time and Mr Fidler is trying it out of desperation - so when he loses it (which may be months yet!), then it will have to be demolished.

Perhaps Roddydogs and RDB could explain whet they don't understand about that (rather than next week posting some more whining drivel along the lines of ... it's still there... he's won... blah blah blah...)

Even when the appeal goes against him, he will still be given a period of time to knock it down, so it could easily be another year yet before it goes, it does not mean he has won.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

It's a monstrosity!!! The sooner it gets flattened, the sooner we restore architectural harmony in the Universe :D

icon1.gifThe Victorians did a better job than modern 3rd world states
Southend on Sea, though it grew like a weed as the nearest "seaside" to the capital, without the aid of The Town & Country Planning acts, has turned out as a better designed place than the majority of third world "favelas".

    I don't see anything wrong.

If there are loopholes for the rich then he thought that there is a loop hole for the middle class...unfortunately the council didn't agree.

I personally think he complied with their rules and since no one was concerned about the haystack monstrosity for 4 years why are they now concerned about the 'castle' home. I think it looks grand:D

Agreed, they just want to make an example of him.

Planning officer I dont mean to disagree with you so much. Im sure you know more than I do about this.
But with all due respect, a couple of years ago people were saying what you are saying now. Its always going to be soon.

Do you remember exactly 1 year ago on this very thread? You said by May 2009 it will be demolished and I said no it wont he always has something else up his sleve.

Now it sounds like it could be ANOTHER year away.

All Im saying is it will always be another year away or soon.

His name is very apt, Mr Fidler will always come up with something maybe until the day he dies.

I know some will say "Not this time, this time he has reached the end of the line, there is no where else to turn".

But this has been said many times before, last May was just one example. Other times before that.

In a few years it will be the same old story.
