I am a cookbook collector  .... I have (literally) hundreds, and cook from them every single night, and many times at lunchtime too. Once you know the 'rules' of SW you will find many many recipes that fit without any changes, and almost all the rest just need a tweak here or an adaption there.
Jamie is very much part of our lives too
Enjoy your time with SW - it allows you to cook and eat and lose weight - quite cool really
Tonight for example, I am eating a morrocan sweet tagine, with chicken, chickpeas, onions, apricots and carrots all served on cous cous. Not a syn in sight
Can you give any other examples pls?
I love cooking and although I love SW substituting low fat fromage frais or yogurt for white sauce in 'conventional' recipes absolutely horrifies me - I can't stand cooked yogurt/fromage frais.
Also, is there anyone out there who loves real baking but also does SW?
SW is supposed to be for life which makes sense but when I think of having a fridge full of diet yogurts and artificial sweeteners everywhere I do get discouraged. I'm very much of a old-style homemade kind of person - before joining SW everything at home was homemade...bread, soft cheese, pasta, yogurt etc...but it's very hard to 'syn' something like homemade ricotta.
I miss all my homemade stuffI know they always say SW is not a diet but it sure does rely on a lot of diet yogurts, diet jelly, diet sweeteners etc.
Plus after my first week (I used to be a member but then stopped for 6 months and now have come back) I only lost 0.5lbs...and that's without having had any of my lovely homemade stuff."Finish each day And be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and Absurdities have crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can."

... of meals I make that i think are yummy, good on SW (ie low syn or free) and not too tinkered with??
Looking through my last few weeks meal plans, we have had the following, many from cook books, some made up, all sucessful, hopefully inspiring
lamb and bean cassulet
potato and chard gratin, with lamb chops
tofu and noodles, broc with mush, and egg fried rice (chinese new year)
mushroom, flagelot bean and tomato lasagne
chicken curry
samosa, lamb rogan josh and pilau rice
cheese and bacon burger with chips
chicken wrapped in bacon stuffed with mozzarella and basil
moussaka
mushroom and smoked bacon risotto
sweet potato felafel and coleslaw with wm rice
beef and mushroom casserole
pasta with BNS, feta and bacon
guinea fowl with fondant potatoes and medlar jus
pleeeeeease don't ask me for all the recipes though0 -
also chinese takeaways?
i normally have mushroom chowmein a cpl small spoons of rice and a small spoon of chick curry (pinched from daughters)
Id also like to know how many syns chicken balls in batter would be!? lol
Page 30 of your FO book has a list with some of the chinese takeaway food in itI've found Extra Easy to be rather good with a chinese! For an example between 3 of us (plus DS) we had the following ...
Chinese Restaurant, Beef in Black Bean Sauce, average portion, 360g serving 5
Chinese Restaurant, Chicken Chop Suey with Noodles, average portion, 300g serving 5½
Chinese Restaurant, Chicken in Oyster Sauce, average portion, 375g serving 4½
Chinese Restaurant, Rice, fried, average portion, 300g serving 4
Came to an estimated 19 syns so we counted 10 each to account for any different sizes in portions etc as for your chicken balls in batter ...
Chinese Restaurant, Sweet & Sour Chicken in Batter, average portion, 320g serving 17½

I feel the same way. I always preferred baking to cooking. Now I cook more, but hardly ever bake as there's no point. I can't have it.I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them, but they were only satellites
It's wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care0 -
There is nothing you can't have even if you make it with all the original ingredients - it just means you have to portion and syn it same with cakes etc. I've been in class with lots of people who've made their own bread and refused to give it up, but they've had to work it into their syns! Syn all the ingredients then divide it by how many pieces/slices you'll get - 60 syn cake divided by 12 portions isn't that bad - same as shop bought
You don't HAVE to use diet this and diet that - that's our individual choices to make our syns go further. I could use normal jelly but it means I can have less of it. It's all about balance at the end of the day.0 -
morning everyone, nice to see some good losses
has anyway tried success express? always seems too much planning but the FO "bible" says it is a good way to boost weightloss, if you have been struggling.

Another one today - had yoghurt and fruit salad for brekkie, gammon & egg for lunch and Quorn meatballs with 2xHEb SW wedges for dinner before I fgo out to archery practice! YUM!
that's great SC, as you were saying you (like me) seldom do red days..good to hear you survived. Do you think you will do more red days now?

I agree also. I do still bake my own bread - it is simple wholemeal, and I use 57g (a med slice) as a HB, or I fiddle and make rolls (which works well), but I rarely bake now. Pre SW I was very old style - baking regularly etc (maybe thats how I have lost some weight :rotfl: ) but I now cook a great deal more, just barely bake.
The only thing I really miss is pastry - the syns are astronomical, so rarely seems 'worth' it.:rolleyes:0 -
Thank you:eek:
I put a whole can in a curry (makes enough to serve 4 easily).
If a tablespoon is 15 ml & you are allocated 30 mls for 2.5 syns, & a can is 400 then its 33.333 x 2.5 or 33 syns per can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does that mean I can't use coconut milk:(
Where do you buy fresh coconut milk
I use the light version for curries and thai meal, or add to butternut squash soup.
Blue Dragon Coconut Milk, Light, canned 165ml can
Original 8½ Syns
Green 8½ Syns
If you are having an Extra Easy day, choose the lower Syn value 0
