I've just remembered that my group is having a party night/taster evening this week to celebrate our consultants last week as leader. What can I take along thats cheap and easy to make but low in syns too?
I took fresh pineapple cut up with yummy red grapes and fresh mint leaves. Simple to prepare, reasonably cheap and was enjoyed by all.
I also took a pot of (Free) very low fat fromage frais but noone opened it!0 -

This post is in response to angie's post last night. Rather than PM her (which I was going to do), I am posting it for you all to see as it will perhaps explain how I feel about SW and might be of help to others. I apologise in advance because I have WAFFLED immensely so I suggest you grab a cup of tea or glass of wine before you lose the will to live reading my RATHER LONG POST!!
I'm sorry I've written so much but I feel it is important to share the reasoning behind how I have reached my decision.
SO hello Angie

I found your post last night rather ironic because I am having exactly the same argument with myself at the moment.

I think I have have made my decision although I am still trying to talk myself out of it!
I started my Slimming World journey on 29 August 07, gained my half stone award on 12 September 07, my 1 stone on 24 October 07 and my 1 ½ stone on 23 April 2008.
My original target was to lose 2 stone 2 pounds but towards the end part of last year, I decided that my desired target weight was perhaps too big a mountain/ to climb/taking my weight loss too far so I reduced it by 5 pounds.

In all honesty after achieving my 1 ½ stone award, I think my enthusiasm for the plan diminished and has never returned 100%. I have continued to go to class however – some weeks I'm fine with the plan, others weeks I struggle.

I don't know why I don't have the enthusiasm for the plan that I had at the beginning. Compared to me, you are an absolute angel and I wish I had your willpower.

It has ALWAYS been the case for me that if I have something on, a meal out, cakes appear in work the day after weigh in (when I have resolved to be good that particular week) then it all goes to pot. If I have a meal out, rather than stick to SUPERFREE all day, I think to myself, I'm out tonight and (will try to be good) (but know I will end up eating what I want) SO I might as well eat what I want the rest of the day too!

So self sabotage is a big problem for me.

I was considering quitting late last year because I was fed up of paying the £4.50 each week and also having to constantly watch what I ate, count syn values etc.

I couldn't bring myself to quit however so I stuck with it and did begin to make good progress towards my (now old) target. Christmas got in the way and 7 lb later, I'm struggling to get back into the SW way of thinking. Typically my menus are based around SW but then I spoil it and eat too many syns – that unmeasured glass of wine, that hi fi bar that I have to syn (but don't) because Im following extra easy and have already used my HEB on bread. That treatsize bar of chocolate that I take to work “just in case I fancy it” but end up eating because its there.

I sat down the other week and planned my menu for almost 2 weeks. I followed this religiously from the Wednesday (day after weigh in) until the Saturday afternoon when it would appear now that I had a panic attack. I cannot be sure that it was a panic attack but from the symptoms I had, my friend strongly believes that I did and my blood results at the docs all came back normal.

This experience was probably the decider for me in reducing my target. I used to work full time but now have reduced hours and only work 4 days, I'm trying to study for two exams in May (was meant to be four!) and I'm trying to watch and plan everything I eat.

I stress easily and although I don't outwardly display that I'm stressed and appear all calm and collected, it bubbles up inside and then I have a tantrum at something ridiculous !

SO I have decided to be easy on myself. I have decided to renegotiate my target so that its a weight that is achievable and is something I will be able to maintain.

It might well be the case that I would reach my old target but would I be able to stick to it? I see little point in getting there once, getting my shiny target certificate (or whatever you get) and then constantly being outside target and having to pay.

Money is proving an issue for me too not only the £4.50 weekly subscription charge but also having food products in my cupboards/freezers that are not SW friendly but have been bought over the months. I don't want to be in the position where to stay at my (old) target, I have to be 110% good all of the time because that just isn't going to happen.

So my new revised target now means that I have to lose about another 7 pounds which gives me something reasonable to aim for and something I know I will want to achieve asap so that I can stop paying!

To decide on my new target, I looked in my food optimising book and worked out what weight I have weighed in most often at. I have therefore set my target so that this weight is at the top end of my target range.

I do still feel that having now decided to change my target that when I get my certificate I will feel a fraud because it isn't the weight I set my heart on but I'm looking on it that I have to set a target for SW but really my target is that 6 pound window that we have once you reach target and thus since I'm allowed to be 3 pounds below my actual target, if I got that far, I would only be ½ pound away from what my old target was! And I know I would be proud of myself if I got that close and might even have a week of being extra good to see what happened!

The other advantage of me reducing my target is that if I do decide I want to take it further in the future, I will be able to set my target at what I first chose when I joined SW as this would with my new target be over 7 pounds away.

So I firmly believe that you should set your target for something very close knowing that you have those 3 pounds either side to play with and can renegotiate that extra 7 pounds as and when you want to in the future.

I'm so sorry for writing an essay!0 -

consultant31 wrote: »Sorry, only just back from a couple of days away so missed this post yesterday. You're allowed 28gms of porridge oats + a Scan Bran (for the extra fibre needed) to make up a HEB.
It doesn't look a lot but if you cover it with a Muller Light the night before you want it, then in the morning stir it up and add some fresh or frozen fruit, it makes a bowlful and is nicely filling.
ok..was eating 42grammes....oops!! ok where do i get a scan bran?
what should i cover in muller...i dont like mullers overly or fruit....i know it sounds terrible....so i just eat my oats in milk HEA and a spoon of sugar...a syn right?
