Well I messed up a bit lot yesterday. We have a curry most saturday nights, sometimes I make from scratch, sometimes from a paste, sometimes from a jar!!! All depends how lazy i'm feeling. Well last night we had an Asda GFY Korma, as it was cooking I remembered to check the syns.....It was 40syns for the jar, and it was only going between me and dh, so that's 20syns each:eek:

I might be able to, I'll have to see if I can find another roasting tin. I can see my having a fight with my bloke later as I'm sure he'll want to cook the spuds and beef with loads of fat as to him fat = flavour!
I do agree roasties done in the fat of the meat are the best.....
My dh has had to get used to 'dry roasters' he does have a little moan now and then, but I ust ignore him and cover them with gravy!!

Actually...I did say to my OH last week that once I started SW again I would refuse to eat anything that wasnt SW friendly and he PROMISED to help me stick to it! I'll make the roasties the healthy way and if he complains, tough! They have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson

Well done Liz
Just remind him of his promise to support you!!
Does anybody have the password that they can pm me, so I can double check on that curry sauce online....I want to input all the details in to the calculator. Because it seems an awfully high amount of syns considering it reckons less than 5% fat and 109 calories for the whole jar

Morning! Can anyone help me to work out how I can see my past posts on this thread? I posted my day's menu etc and need it because I have left my food diary in work and need to add it all back together on Monday! Doh!
Last night I spend my syns on ketchup (2) a trickle of vodka (2) and a drizzle of honey on my yoghurt (2). Planning on blowing the saved ones on a bacon butty this morning - white loafer buttered with bacon, egg, cheese, mushrooms and ketchupNot HM either, but from the butty van at the farm - I'm letting myself have it as a real treat because I know I can incorporate it into my weekly syns and hopefullyby letting myself have that I'll stick to the plan this time
Cheap SW friendly food
Think about the cheaper ingredients and see what you can create from them, and try new ones. I got fed up of the price of quorn mince being nearly as much as normal mince, so tried dried soya mince (quote from SW book it must be made from defatted soya, the tesco one is free, Sainsburys also do one but I haven't checked that yet) Its about 99p for quite a big packet that when rehydrated makes an awful lot more mince than quorn. It also has even less flavour than quorn but is useful to bulk out mince dishes, as are lentils, grated carrot, chopped veggies and oats. have a look on the Old Style board for loads more ideas like that, most are SW friendly, especially now we've got the new EE plan.
Speaking of which, can we somehow edit the first page of this thread to explain Extra Easy, as I see loads of new posters are asking the same question? I know its explained several times throughout, but it would make it obvious and easy to direct them to?
I also find green days cheaper in general than red, and I must admit my shopping bill has gone up now I'm having more meat doing the EE plan! But I'm buying it from Aldi and buying cheaper cuts of meat where appropriate. Stewing steak for example is just gorgeous done in the slow cooker in stock with veggies, and you can thicken the stock with a little cornflour for 1-2 syns to make a hearty meal! Plus don't forget that on EE since you can mix red & green you can serve a mountain of potatoes, pasta or rice with your meat to make it stretch further!
I often spend a few syns to save quite a few pennies, like using the value stock cubes for 1-2 syns per stock cube (remember it'll make a dish for several servings) rather than use bovril or vecon. I also don't often use pasta & sauce or flavoured rices because its cheaper to make from scratch, but if I want to for convenience or a change, I'll often buy the value brand, for typically 2 syns for the packet.
Other cheap ingredients include baked beans, lentils, any dried beans or pulses such as chickpeas, soyabeans, split peas etc etc (exception to this is red kidney beans where a value tin is 14p, and I'm always scared of not cooking the dried ones right for killing the toxins), own bran/value smash tends to be free, value rice/pasta/potatoes and don't forget frozen fruit & veg is often cheaper than fresh, reduced fresh veg can be bought in bulk and frozen. I also use things like value tins of tomatoes, peas, sweetcorn etc instead of their more expensive brand equivalents.
All the cheap ingredients are ideal for winter casseroles soups and stews, real comfort food, so get creative! :T0 -

HI all - hope everyone is well. I am still following EE and wanted to make a lasagna for tea - usually make the Baked Bean one but can make a mince one now! Anyways Ive never made a meat lasagna so does this sound ok
brown mince, onions and mushrooms, add tinned toms, herbs and seasoning and use that to make the lasagna or should I be adding something else to the base - bovril maybe like the cottage pie recipe?
Grated Half fat cheese over the top (dont drink milk so can use this as my 1 Healthy A)
