As I understand it, cooked fruit has had its mollecular structure broken down before we eat it through cooking, so your body can absorb the sugar and calories without having to do any work on breaking it down first like it would have to if it was raw from the bowl.
I would imagine tinned fruit either goes through a brief heat process to sterilise it, or maybe its the being preserved in juice for X amount of time that breaks down the structure a bit like cooking it.
Am I making any sense?! :rotfl:0 -
Does anyone else think how unfair it is that so many foods that are SW friendly and syn free are so expensive compared to their alternatives? Mullerlights are free but usually cost the earth but Tesco own brand ones are much cheaper and have syns. Plus fresh fruit is free but costly, for example a tub of raspberrys can be £3 but tinned fruit can be as little as 50p a tin?
It sucks!

Some own brands are free Liz3yy - and Lasting Satisfaction or Activia Fat Free are nearly always on offer. I understand what you're saying though but I'm managing not to spend anymore than I ever did - the cut down of alcohol helps as did the less meat I bought (Quorn works out cheaper). Other Old Style tips like bulking out can help the pennies stretch too!0

I must admit I'm finding it hard to keep my food bills down now I've started SW again. Might sound dumb but does anyone have any ideas/tips for cheap meals/snacks to help save the pennies? They have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson

My fave meal is pasta (3kg bag from Asda costs £3.46 and will last for weeks!), half a can of baked beans on top (sometimes with chilli powder in) and a HEa of grated cheese on top! :j
Also you can make quorn (or beef!) chilli con carne - put plenty of kidney beans in, also tinned/fresh mushrooms plus grated carrot plus any other veg you like (inc pureed chickpeas or a handful of red lentils if on green/EE!) Proabably several portions with lots of rice for under £3?0 -
Now there's a thought - why are canned mushrooms free when canned peaches etc aren't??
 :rotfl:

I have always believed that Slimming World are somewhat 'sponsored' by quorn and muller. You can only eat quorn, no other vegetarian brand, and similarly with muller substitutes. Makes sense that they have been paid, and therefore syn that which isn't the brand.0 -
Quorn I can understand, but there are plenty of free yoghurts available - see above - Lasting Satisfaction & Activia Fat Free plus some own brands0

I'm starting to think thats true myself, why else would they not give syns to other products when the calorie contents are so similar? They have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson
