tesco havent been reducing stuff as much as they use to, at least here, I wouldnt expect them to be offering anything for free! Also I think that the coop by me wouldnt offer anything free lol... although they do some nice reduced prices i dont see them giving anything free.
  • My OH works in morrisons and has said milk and bread deliverys ae not happening on christmas eve this year but a large delivery is expected tuesday...not sure if this is so they dont have to reduce *shrugs*

She has also said that the butcher will not be cutting meat unless its a special request so that they dont have to reduce....saying that though if there is any meat left the reduction gun is going on the floor at 3pm (and its usually like a warzone if anythings left apparently lol)!

  • I worked on the checkout for a number of years at ASDA - I worked a few Christmas Eves and I can never remember them giving anything away - especially not to the staff!
I remember being really frustrated at having to fiddle with Whoops stickers for 2p and 5p not going through and having to call the supervisor - this was happening at 5 mins to closing when all the staff wanted to do was get off home. I used to think why don't you just give it away?

Believe me, no member of staff who has worked the 2 busiest days of the year at ANY supermarket will want to be on shopfloor reducing ANYTHING with us grumpy customers swarming around, lol. :rotfl: Its gonna be hard enough work for them anyway!

    General note to everyone -
Remember, Supermarket workers are people too, some, on low wages, and they will be trying their best for everyone, so dont get nasty with them just because you can't get through a till, or find your product quick enough!

The same goes both ways, dont make snide comments at people with a basket of reduced goods saying ooh bargain hunter, ooh that wouldve cost me 2.10 but costs you 20p etc etc..

Prehaps some people should just be glad of a bargain!

How about just going by that old fashioned saying of -"Treat others how you would wish to be treated"? Then it wouldn't matter which side of the till you were!

Or as a friend of mine has on her forum signature - "If you see someone without a smile......give them one of yours!"

Here's mine to start you off!

Theres no excuse for staff to look down and talk down to people, i couldnt possibly afford the full priced food from thier shop, thats no excuse for them to talk down to me, puts me off shopping there, staff like that should be fired, youre supposed to be nice and friendly.

some really interesting comments, thanks everyone for replies, I have decided then I will nip out too I think to have a nosy at my local supermarket, I won't be getting involved with any bargain riots though :D only coz I have me young kiddies with me, I'm never any "trouble" to staff though lol (must be tiring for em'), everyone who's venturing out keep us posted on this thread after if you manage any bargains and which supermarket - Hope you all manage to get some great freebies!!! :j
  • I'd honestly rather spend Christmas Eve with my family & friends than going to the supermarket trying to save 50p on a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread!

I try my best not to shop Xmas Eve or Boxing Day and never ever would on Christmas Day, having worked in various shops while at College I appreciate how horrible it is having to work. I worked at Strand Cards one year and customers were actually rolling under the shutters as we shut them at 5pm on Xmas Eve - if you haven't bought your card before then you obviously don't care that much! We then had to stay behind to restock all the shelves with the Sale stuff to open up again straight after Xmas.

I'm a total shopaholic and proud of it but some things are just more important in life

    rant over, hee hee

    Merry Christmas Everyone x
