Hi there,
My sister yesterday told me go down to either our local Marks and spencer or booths before closing on chistmas eve (about half an hour) and as they are shutting for two days they hand out bread and milk as you leave for free to customers.... anyone else heard this?
Also she mentioned other fresh produce like fresh fruit and veg are going cheap....
I'm tempted to go and check it out (even though the thought of how packed it is a bit off putting with my baby and toddler in tow- so thought would check is it really worth it and true?)
think it's a wonderful help and very good will to alot of families / students and most people to give away items like that though.

Don't know if it's true but might try it myself. Thanks.0

I used to work in a supermarket when I was a student and we would do this on Christmas Eve so I'd say it is common practice for most supermarkets.:hello:0

It's a tradition in our family that my Dad goes to the local supermarket on Christmas Eve to see what goodies he can get at silly prices.
Last year he returned with loads of fresh fish, whole Salmons, etc. My Mum wasn't happy that she had to stand gutting them (he'd fogotten to ask the Fishmonger to do it) so she could put them in the freezer when she really wanted to relax! LOL!0 -
I had a few huge bags of sprouts last year I didnt really want them but the freebie lover in me grabbed them Lol2010 challenge A.B.C.D.[STRIKE]E.[/STRIKE]F.G.H.I.J.[STRIKE]K[/STRIKE].L.M.N.O.P.Q.[STRIKE]R[/STRIKE].S.T.U.V.W.X.Y.Z

I've just started temping at Tesco and will be working christmas eve (they shut at 6 tho) and have been told staff get things like free fresh turkeys and that on xmas eve so I would imagine customers also get free perishable things.
I work at a very large Tesco and we ARE closed boxing day too

While no doubt their will be items needing clearing especially fresh ready meals which arent a good seller at this time of the year, Supermarkets have been clever in recent years, they know in advance roughly how much they will sell and so dont tend to have vast amounts of Christmas items to clear.
To the posters hoping for free/cheap bread on Christmas Eve, sometimes you can be lucky to get bread at all late on Christmas Eve. Large Tescos/Asdas are opening on Boxing Day this year so these will only be shut for 1 day.0 -
I was at Tesco Watford last Christmas eve just before closing time and oh my it was such a stampede. All the fresh breads shelves were cleared at that time and people were bunched around the hapless staff as they brought in boxes of fruits and veges. They were either free or dirt cheap judging by how people were pushing and snatching. They had boxes of organic vegetables which seemed to be the biggest draw. We just bought normal non-reduced stuff and left, didn't want to be part of that mad crowd as we had our young kids with us.0
