OS Daily Thread - Sunday 21 December

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 21st December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning everyone!

But it's very cold out here in the snow

Oh I say it's tough, I have had enough,
Can you stop the cavalry?"
Peyton - hope you found time to do your tree, mine is still being ignored by us all..
Halfpint - you will fit right in here
Taplady - big hugs for you
Coldstreamalways - Reading about your grandparents and how much they obviously loved you and you them made me well up too - I so wish I had had that relationship but unfortunately my gran died of breast cancer at just 43, so I don't really remember her except from photos.
Had a friend ring up and ask if she could come round and buy some last min christmas cards from me, luckily for her I haven't written any of my family ones yet, so was able to sell her the ones I had made for them :rotfl: Now I will have to be a busy bee and make more!!
Strictly was fabulous!! I was so sure Rachel would win as she was so good with all her dances but I think Toms show dance just blew everyone away it was so good! I liked them both so would have been happy whoever won, but I do feel Rachel is a much better dancer. Lisa I never warmed to and that show dance was awful, when he was rolling her up his body it looked like he was lifting a heavy roll of carpet!:rotfl:
Roast beef and all the trimmings today - can't wait, I love my OHs roast potatoes! Lodger is just about over her flu so will probably be joining us.. can hardly cook and eat it while she lies on the sofa looking hungry... (she has taken up position on the sofa the last two days cos her tv isn't working in her room  )
to everyone who needs them today.

Hi MSD and all who follow.
I hope all those who have been poorly are feeling better now and looking forward to the big day. It's not long now, is it? I managed to get all DH's pressies wrapped while he was working yesterday, plus the two I've bought for DS2 and DIL's cat (a placemat with his name on it and a book about how to be a family cat, which is hilarious. Anyone who has owned a cat will identify with it!)
Today, I shall wrap up DGS and DGD's pressies, once I've put eyes on their knitted monkeys. The bottom of the tree is starting to look exciting now with all the pressies stacked around it.
Dinner today is a roast using bits from the freezer - a large pork chop and some sausages, with cabbage, carrots and gravy. Pudding will be a fresh fruit salad - which DH can make - and then we'll have cake and custard for tea.
DH is off to the docs tomorrow; he cut himself shaving a couple of weeks ago and what looked like a normal scab has sort of grown into a skin tag. I sent him to the nurse at the surgery on Friday and she said he should see the doctor, so he managed to get an early morning appointment for tomorrow. I must say, our surgery is brilliant with appointments. We hear such horror stories of people having to wait for days, so I'm really grateful that ours has such a good system.
Strictly last night was a brilliant show. I would have been happy with either Tom or Rachel winning. When they said that Tom had had the most viewers' votes last week, I knew he'd win. Diva, I couldn't warm to Lisa either; I don't know why and it made me feel mean. I couldn't understand all the praise she kept getting from the judges. That show dance was better left undanced, I think, but Tom and Camilla's was totally original and took my breath away. I loved seeing the previous winners dancing together, too. Oh, well - all over until next year!
Well, I'd better go and put the kettle on again.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Oh dear - long post which has just vanished into the ether!
Fabulous retirement on Friday - many kind words and so many lovely gifts from children, staff, parents and governors. Several weepy moments, especially seeing children perform excerpts from all the concerts we've done over the past seven years!
Now, of course, find I have huge amounts of cleaning and tidying and shopping to get through in just three days! Am about to make up spare bed for DS and partner, but at present can barely get into the room where DGD will sleep!
Washing just finished - yesterday's load dried outside!
No family presents bought yet....
Hope to have conservatory straight before church.
Sending love and ((HUGS)) to all feeling sad, lonely or unwell today - and, be warned, I guess I'll have more time to spend on here now! (Well, once I get through the next few days, anyhow!)
Hope your Sunday is good.Resolution:

Morning MSD, M and All who Follow/Cross.
Don't ask why I am awake at this silly hour on a Sunday
Decorations now all up, cards written and sent (apart from the ones who come and sneak up unexpectedly:eek: ), presents still to wrap, and only fresh food to buy next week, why is it then I don't feel Christmassy and could turn into a real Bah! Humbug if I let myself?:rotfl: :rotfl: May very little contact with lo's:rolleyes: . Maybe need to "borrow" some, and I sure they are some Mum's out there who would love an hour or two of peace, (probably be more than ready to hand back after an hour!). :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
My cold seems to have disappeared, but the cough hasn't and I think I have coughed that much it has made my chest sore.
Off to Sheffield today to see DCousin, provided she will be in when I 'phone to check (May manage to call in at Makro, but will avoid Meadowhell). Hope to make the Carol Service tonight, must set timer for Noel's Xmas Presents as that is on at 6pm.
:grouphug: Smoky,Pen-Pen, Mrs_M, anyone feeling under par, and all our friends/rellies who are in the wars atm :grouphug:
:hello: to all newbies :hello:

Good morning everyone,
We loved Strictly last night - really pleased Tom won as we didnt like Rachel - just felt like she thought she has always been better than everyone else. Must agree about Lisas show dance - we seemed to miss the dance element to it!!!
Today we are still using things up from the freezer, so our Sunday roast today is some gammon i found lurking, DS will be pleased as its one of his favourites. Last night we finally got round to decorating the Christmas cake (been cooked, marzipanned and iced for weeks!) and its a little family tradition where we all make holly, snowmen, father Christmases etc out of marzipan to stick on it. DS is the only one who eats any of it but it doesnt feel like Christmas if i havnt made one, and DS is quite happy to eat all of it!
Also planning on doing some cleaning, but as im not working next week, can always do it tomorrow if im feeling lazy today. All the Sunday afternoons in December are family time, where we have a Christmas film and hot chocolate with marshmallows and squirty cream - todays film is The Santa Claus 3.
Right, need to get my clicks done, can hear noises from DSs room so think he will be down in a minute asking if he can watch Match of the Day - what joy:rolleyes: !!!
Hope everyone has a lovely day, ((HUGS)) to all those feeling poorly, need one or who would just like one.
Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx0 -
The First Noel, the Angels did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel
In my calendar today – a Christmas pud :santa2:
There's not much to do today, just a couple of loads of washing.
Lunch will be cheese and ham toasties  followed by chocolate buttons  while watching Fred Claus
I'm going to hang the choc coins on the tree today, I can't put them on when I put the tree up cos they'd be gone before Christmas if I do
Thornton's have English coins if anyone needs them (97p per bag). Can't have Euros, it's just wrong  And it makes me madBulletproof0 -
Morning everyone
:santa2: :santa2: :santa2: :santa2: :santa2: :santa2: :santa2: and ((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))) to all
well today I need to take ds2 to the argos in the little market town about 5 miles away as he wanted something from there for my christmas pressie and whilst there we might go and have a mooch around the continental market that is on,
the usual jobs need doing today a bit of washing dusting ect,not sure what's for dinner today I try and avoid a roast today as we are having one in the week so will see what eveyone wants
I also need to start some wrapping might do dh's stuff today as he is out until later
have a good day
pam xxI didn't say it was your fault, I said I was going to blame you
I am one of the English sexy Shelias
I'm also a hussy0 -
Morning all,
I'm so pleased Tom won as well - I thought his show dance was fabulous & he looks like he is absolutely having a ball when he dancesNot to say I didn't like Rachel & Vincent too. I agree about the "roll of carpet" with Lisa & Brendan - it looked very ungraceful at that point. Was wondering what I am going to watch now = but Dancing on Ice will be starting
Think the flu has finally turned the corner, I just feel snuffly this morning.
Donny-Gal, be careful you haven't developed pleurisy or something - get it checked out before Xmas if it doesn't feel better. (I sound like my mother!)
Beemuzed, have a very happy retirement - you will probably start to wonder how you found time to fit work in....
Tru, I've never noticed that choc coins came in currencies... I will have a look now!
MrsMix, didn't know there was a continental market on there today, might go for a mooch a bit later. Hope you're feeling a bit better now?
Think today will be sausage casserole & jacket potatoes or mash for supper, simple & comfort-foody. Although my tastebuds still aren't really working properly. Have some carrots in the fridge that need to be used so probably soup for lunch.
Will also get some sheets washed as it's so mild out they should dry easily.
(((((hugs)))))) for all those poorly or having tough times. Have a good day.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
Good Morning All
Shouldnt really be on here today as will be doing nothing OS:eek: . At lunchtime we are off to London.
Will jump in the shower in a mo and do some ironing this morning but thats it. This afternoon we will be mooching around Covent Garden and maybe going to see a film in Leicester Square. Hoping to get to Chinatown for dinner.
Delivered loads of cards yesterday, just 2 more to write & sort. All pressies wrapped except 2 that I bought for my Sis to be from her kids. Need to take them around there and get the kids to wrap them.
Only fruit n veg to buy & meat to pick up. Looks like we are getting there.
Have a lovely Sunday.

Morning all
i loved strictly last night but didn't really think tom deserved to win - except that his show dance was the best. It was a forgone conclusion though when it goes down to the public vote. I sort of wanted lisa to win as i felt she'd improved the most. Still all in all excellent family entertainment - one of the few things that we all sit down to watch.
I'm supposed to be at the homeless shelter this morning doing a day of setting up but am feeling a bit sniffly - I'd rather rest today than be too sick to do my shifts next week.
I bought one of those "anything MandS can do we can do cheaper" meals from Mr T last night but ended up with cheese and crackers in front of the telly (how i love being home alone) so we'll have that tonight - hopefully Mr caringsharing will have fed dd(12) as I can't see it stretching to 3. I opened the wine that came with it last night though and it was horrid!
New plans today then are to catch up with some housework, clean my bike and pack for next week. I also need to get some snacky things to take with me next week - they do aim to feed the volunteers but it's usually just soup and bread. I'm also going to have a search for something to do on tuesday night as that's a free night - it would be lovely if I can get a cheap theatre ticket
anyhoo - I'm rambling in a housework avoiding kind of a way
have a good day

xxxI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080
