  • DP World are in the position that they can switch on or off their development when they so choose.
My gut feeling is that they will build stage 1 and when that is complete they will decide on the further stages.
They have already put a hold on building all the wharehousing and some other infrustructure.

    Is a Wharehouse similar to a !!or!house?

You could probably use a cherry picker in both.

Is a 30% reduction the usual figure for this time of year?

"With several other major carriers making larger capacity cuts, MSC may still be gaining market share."

If a 5% cut still gains market share, that means other carriers are doing how badly?

“WE DON’T have time to discuss niceties,” lawyer Andrew Finfer warned MPs when the port rates campaign came to the House of Commons last week.
“There are businesses represented in this room today that will not be in existence in three months’ time unless something is done.”

Ok the Port Rates Campaign may not be related to Felixstowe Port directly, but the associated firms in the vicinity - if their nationwide operation goes to the wall because of Govt rate demands - could they be under threat?

Not meaning to create rumours - all this stuff is out there on the internet, so anyone can read what they like into these articles...

Interesting a site set up to inform it's workers and I did'nt even know it existed, that's been well communicated by our union.

MSC are also expanding their Transhipments, a move welcomed by my dad as he was the one who built that up when he worked for them from a one person operation to a whole department. It had become somewhat depleted since his move over to crosstrades and subsequent retirement.

This should help to ward off some financial pressure although MSC are pretty diverse anyway, some other shipping lines concentrate more on Far East (which is my speciality) whereas MSC does almost an equal amount of transatlantic and Far East with cross trades and transhipments thrown in for good measure, coupled with their own in house customs clearance and haulage (although they do subcontract to other hauliers when theirs are all out).
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

So what do you people think about Britain's largest container port to be built here on the north bank of the Thames estuary on the former Shell refinery site ?

Will Dubai Ports follow through and get it built or will the "recession" mean nothing more will happen?

    Harry

I wondered what will happen to the proposed super port too.

"It will also be the world's most advanced container port and Europe's largest logistics park."

RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

I hope that some of those flats above shops have their own front doors, little doors next to the main shop entrance. And with the number of a red door and a green door I think I could be quite happy.

You can see some pictures of them here:-

To be fair, there are two parts (well three actually, Argos is on the lower part of Hamilton Road but it still gets a fair amount of trade) to Hamilton road, the main part and the outer part (or as I say, the main drag and extra bit), some of those on Hamilton road on that link are the outer part..WH Smith are in the main drag.

Maidstone Road is so far away from the town centre and is classed more as Walton, same with High Street Felixstowe...sounds like it should be town centre but in fact, it is also Walton and far removed from our town centre. Orwell Road, whilst very close to the town centre (it actually crosses over Hamilton Road) is again not really the main drag with only a very few shops in the area closest to the junction of Hamilton road after that it becomes residential.

The only other shop for sale in that link (on page 1) which could be called on the main drag is a former flower shop.

God I sound boring...think that comes from being born in this town!

  • Felixstowe town centre was heaving today and it makes you wonder if anyone realises that we are deep in a recession.
