When changing from AOL and BT to Sky, do you cancel their services before you apply for Sky or after, I don't want to run into any trouble.

After the switch has gone through. I would not advise moving your line rental from BT though.
This is because you would have to go via Sky to BT in the event of a fault with your landline connection. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
If I keep my BT line rental and get Sky Talk, will I be paying BT anymore than the £11 line rental or will they charge me extra on something?0
-
No you should not be, just make sure you are on the lowest BT tarriff.
I assume you have checked that Sky can offer you the LLU base, mid or max service. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I have not checked that, what does it mean?
By the way, what's wrong with the Sky Line Rental, why is BT better?0 -
I have just changed from BT Line rental to Sky and have been given 6 months Sky rental at £5. The only thing i can think of as a drawback is that the 0845 and 0870 numbers with Sky are more expensive. As i dont use these numbers at all i am quite happy to stay with Sky for my renta.
If anything goes wrong with the service i am told by BT it is a case of contacting Sky and they will deal with it. Please feel free to correct me if i am wrongmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I don't understand why people want to keep BT line rental if Sky is cheaper. Why does everybody want BT line rental, what's so great about it?0

If you are on Sky talk, calls to Sky's new range of 08442 numbers are not charged so don't worry about charges to Sky CS. Also if you take talk when signing on to broadband, the connection fees are reduced and sometimes waived altogether which can save up to £75.
You need to request a MAC code from your current provider (but don't cancel as they may cut you there and then but requesting a mac does not mean a cancellation until the mac is processed) ring sky, with mac code when ordering, if order goes thru without a hitch, your service will cancel down with the old provider when the switchover happens.
If you don't do things in the right order, it can cause all kinds of problems to the switchover and can often end in a period of limbo where you have no service from either the old or the new provider for a while. If you get it right, your downtime will be very short, usually just an hour or so.
So to summarise...
1. Request MAC from old provider but don't cancel (Mac is valid for 30 days from date of issue).
2. Ring new provider, order new service and give them the MAC.
3. On switchover day, connect router from new provider (old service will cancel down from this date but once complete, ring old provider just to check).0 -
After you've rung AOL to get a cancellation number, I suggest you send them a recorded delivery letter confirming you've stopped the service with them and quoting all your details. Keep a copy of the letter and your recorded delivery receipt. If you're wondering why, Google 'AOL keep taking money from my account'0

Ring AOL for your MAC, this tells them you are cancelling once it is used by your new provider. Once you get the MAC ring Sky BB sales and give it to them, after that wait till your Sky connection is ready and then remove all settings and software that AOL has pushed into your PC and get ready for fun. Sometimes you have to go back into your network settings and reset it to automatically acquire IP address etc as AOL tend to specify a setting. Don't worry though as Sky tech support can talk your through that if needed.0
