  • Good morning all

I am using up what is in the kitchen to make a healthy lentil casserole for dinner tonight.... I will be putting in red lentils, diced sweet potato, potato, carrot, chopped onion, veg stock, coriander and cumin (cinnamon/curry powder??). My question though is how long I should cook it for so it stays a casserole and does not become a soup?

    Any ideas??

    Morning all,

Woken up with a bad tummy this morning :o , hope it goes soon, we have a lot to do today, I would like to pop into the local somerfield up the road, to see if they have any of the 1/2 price turkey crowns left, we are having pork for Xmas day, but might get one for the freezer. I also need to pick up a sack of spuds while OH is here to lift them, and would like to pick up some veg from the car boot sale.

Also need to get little dog out for a long walk, she has a quick one during the week, but needs a good one at the weekend otherwise she gets hyper, just like a child  .

I have not watched any of strictly, so don't even know who is in the final, but I hope you all enjoy it.

We are having a quick tea tonight, bread cheese pickles toms and crisps, nice and easy, I dont like to cook too much on saturday, I call it my day off :D .

Aussie, nice photos, I bet all those old dears loved your dgs, what a nice thing to do :T

Ageandjo, I am sorry, by the time I saw your message on facebook yesterday you had logged off, hope you are well xx

Kathy, that pud looks great, I suppose you could make a chocolate one as well ?

Anyhoo off to somerfield to check out the turkey situation

Hugs where needed, and have good days all xx

Good morning everyone, havent been on since DH got back from blighty. We now have a family car, very nice it is too, pity it will have to suffer all the nasty potholes now its living over here! Well got a few more pressies yesterday and have been catching up with washings since early this morning, have also iced the cake so feel very pleased with myself. Have to drop DD to the bus later she wants to go with her friend to Killarney shopping, then we have the tiler coming to tile the bathroom (just what you need this time of year) anyway it will be another job done.
Think I will try the pud Moilere sounds lovely and easy too, will let you know how it goes. Thanks for the recipe:T Have four egg yolks in fridge left over from icing so will make some custard too. Have a good day everyone.

    Good King Wenceslas looked out
    on the feast of Stephen
when the snow lay round about
    deep and crisp and even
Brightly shown the moon that night
    though the frost was cruel
when a poor man came in sight
    gathering winter fuel

In my calendar today – a Christmas tree :santa2:

Mr tru wanted to go to town early today, but our friend turned up from Southampton last night with lots of Christmas cheer :T I’ve only just got out of bed and my head is very fuzzy, mr tru is still there :D

We have a few things to get from Morrison's - we've done the 'collect reciepts, get £20 off' thing - so we'll go there today. Or maybe tomorrow.

Oh I think I need to go back to bed :D

    Good morning everyone,

Just tried to post and it disppeared!!! Will try again!

Nothing much been happening here, children have now broken up from school, and i have a week off work - HURRAH!!! Ive been given some lovely gifts from the LOs i look after, so they are all under the tree ready for next week.
DS has football today, the last one for a few weeks, so looking forward to having a few weeks away from standing in cold, muddy fields!
I did manage to get some tickets for the Arsenal/Plymouth FA Cup match on the 3rd Jan - its going to be a Christmas surprise for DS and DD, im so chuffed to get them as i have been wanting to take them to the Arsenal stadium - and its a win/win match for us, as we are Arsenal and Plymouth fans!!! Will be going up on the Plymouth coaches, but will be sat in the Arsenal end - im glad Plymouth are letting us use their transport as i didnt fancy driving or trying to catch a train in London in the dark surrounded by football fans!! Just need to keep quiet so i dont let slip to the children before Christmas day.

Im all ready for Christmas now - just waiting for the day now. I love it so much and even tho my 2 now 'know' we still do all the special things - its lovely!!

Right, better get moving, ive had my shower but im still in my dressing gown!! Looking forward to Strictly tonight - we want Tom to win!!

    Have a lovely day everyone,
    Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Morning all :hello: :hello:

Tru - I love your christmas posts:j I will always remember you posting Road from Hell for me last year and being so sad it brought a tear to my eye:D Thankfully no big journeys planned this week although the car park at Asda yesterday was pretty hellish:rotfl:

Sharp intake of breath from all please - I have some OS to report   This week I have bought some material from John Lewis and started to recover my dining room chairs. They were pretty manky and as a new dining room set is way way down the financial priority list then this seemed to be a good solution. Result - they are gorgeous and I am really proud (just need to finish them off now - I am really good at starting things and really really bad at finishing them:rotfl: ) Anyway John lewis material dept is quite a discovery I can imagine spending quite a bit there now I am a seamstress/habidasherey extraordinaire:D :D Dont hold your breath for any knitting stories though - thats next year:rotfl: Anyone wanting any tips on the safe use of a staple gun then im the girl:cool:

Today I am hoping to get my lounge carpet vaxed (ta for the loan Panda:A ) then its out for a few christmas drinkys with some good mates:T

Food will be eaten I am confident of that - but no idea what

Enjoy your weekend peeps and remember in a few days it will all be over so rather than rushing around cleaning the inside of a fleas ear spend time with your loved ones and enjoy your christmas.:xmassmile :xmassmile

Tru - although I don't know your friend from Southampton, as it's my neck of the woods, he's bought some Sotonian (((hugs))) for you from me!

Redruby - now, why didn't I think of doing a chocolate pudding? That will be the next experiment. I might try it with chocolate spread in the base and choc sponge on top!

Laladybird - I'd cook it until the pots and carrots are just cooked. It sounds lovely - let us know what it turns out like.

Pam - good idea to get them doing chores!

N9eav - glad you're starting to feel better.

Well, I got a sudden urge to clean my cooker and it looks really lovely. I don't want to use it now! I've put some washing on the line but don't think it will do much drying out there. I've hoovered, prepped veggies for tomorrow's roast and done all my other chores. I just need to stroll up to the shops to get the paper then come back and alternate between wrapping pressies and my office work that has to be done by Monday morning's deadline.

Hope everyone has a constructive day.

    Morning dahlinks!

Hope you're all OK, off to Youth Orch in a bit, they invite us for mince pies coffee and carols on the last rehearsal of term, all ability levels play together and we have a sing.

Dinner tonight kindly provided tonight by MIL as my birthday (tomorrow) treat. Better on a Sat than a day with work in the morning. I hardly drink, not at work on Monday anyway, but thought it would be nicer for DH. Lovely not to cook. She offered to take us out, but I think it will be far more relaxing this time of year to be at her house, she's a good cook.

MS? made some farmhouse pate last night, not sure about the results! tastes fine. Haved made it to take to mum's for Christmas tea, but plan is to start making it regularly, as it's cheap to do and ds likes it in his lunch box. V. expensive to buy as well and you don't know what's in it:eek: . Might have to do some recipe development (and get an electric mincer, have my gran's old fashioned one and it's hard work. Even with a hand from ds.). No good for the squeamish though, mincing raw liver LOL!

Hope that you all have a lovely weekend and get on well with your preparations for Christmas.

Aussie - lovely photos; DGS is gorgeous. I had a nose at the other photos/videos - lovely cats but is the spider in the outdoor photo real? It looks disgusting!

I'm not sure what you viewed  but I don't own any cats & have no idea where you saw the spider. There are 2 pictures of our chooks in my album though. :D
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

  • Good morning everyone. Hope your Saturday is starting off well. I've enjoyed a lovely hour of sitting back with a coffee and catching up around the forum.

Diva You are NOT the only one with an undecorated tree. Our lil 3 foot one has been sitting on the table for a week and a half with nothing but the fibre optic lights on it. It's on my "to do" list for today. ;)

Pooky Would you mind posting the no yeast pizza dough recipe or share a link? Yeast and I do not get along for some reason either and I love HM pizza. Thanks :)

Lalaladybird Not sure how long you'd need to cook it to keep it stew consistency. I can tell you from experience that if it does get soupy, take a cup of the veg out and mash it well. After adding it back in it thickens up as more of the starch from the mashed veg is released. Or if you have some instant mash, add a bit of that.

I got the majority of the decorations up yesterday, with the exception of the tree. I'll be off hunting down some more ornaments for it today as it's 3 times the size of the tiny one we had last year. Watch out charity shops, here I come! Not feeling OS enough to attempt making any. Plus I've been known to glue my fingers together when attempting crafts. :rotfl:

We had the pleasant surprise of DH's pay going into the bank early. This afternoon I'll be paying bills that I cannot do by direct debit. As long as all the bills are paid, we will manage on what is left. This is our first time of having DH being paid monthly and I think (hope) I've budgeted well. The only downside of early pay is that it will be nearly 6 weeks until his next pay but I've budgeted for that also.

It looks like it could start raining any moment. I was hoping to wash sheets and towels today and hang them out. Having a tiny flat does not leave much room for more than 2 airers so perhaps over a door or two will work for the sheets. We do not have radiators, just an electric fire so it takes longer for them to dry. I'm miserly when it comes to heat during the day when DH is at work. I just wear an extra jumper. I do turn it on for a bit when he gets home at night. His work is outside all day and he gets chilled to the bone.

I was pleased when I went to Aldi's yesterday and they had 2.5kg bags of Maris Piper potatoes for 39p. I grabbed a couple so will either have jacket potatoes tonight or make up scalloped or au gratin potatoes.

I still have a couple of Christmas pressies to wrap. If I get them done today that will be good. If not I'll do them Monday when DH is back at work.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day. Gentle hugs for all in need of them. In a very short time, you all have become family to me. The kind of family you really like. :rotfl:
