    Hello All

So todays sh**e news of the day is that Mr Pips had to ring the Tax Office with a query today and the guy he spoke to said we are still being overpaid as their system doesn't allow them to drop the credits by less than 75% of previous.

He also said we are currently not paying anything towards the £5000 that we owe them.

So where the heck does that leave us next year???

I absolutely rue the day we had anything to do with them :wall:

Off to go and sob in a dark corner :'-(

thats the Tax credits for you, in the nicest of ways be plzed its not the CSA, quickest way to turn you grey over night.

So they cant drop your payments below 75%, basically the 5k will still be owing, what there do is most prob take it off next yrs tax credits, - at an guess based on this yrs award - there most prob take 25% off that, I'm guessing it will be something that will drag on, all you can do when you get any documentation double check it.
For me I didn't know my NI number till i went on IS, till then it was just a number, now its engraved in memory xx

Oh yeah I can see its going to drag on.

My fear is that when I do go back to work part time when Pips at school any money I do earn is going to go straight out on paying them back and childcare so we won't be any better off!

  • Booooo to tax credits. I was glad when I wasn't entitled to them anymore in a way, think they do more harm financially than good most of the time.

I reckon that is what will happen, it be a case then of is it financially viable to work. x

Hello, I'm sorry about tax credits they can definitely be a big pain. I don't know if anyone has already said about this but Tesco's do embroidered school uniforms quite cheap or simplyschoolwear.co.uk are quite good too maybe a way of saving some pennies if it's too expensive at the school. xx

Thanks Guys, I checked them out and typically his school is not on the list!

So I need a bit of advice.

I had a look at some job vacancies yesterday and found one very suitable and that I could do.

15 hours (9-12 M to F) as a Teaching Assistant starting in September, working 38 weeks of the year so all school hols off. Mum has agreed she can manage Pea for that time, still a bit unsure of getting Pip to school. My school is in the same direction as his so possibly might be able to drop him off and then go on to mine, especially if I were to get a particularly nice Head who would let me do 9.15 - 12.15.

BUT (why is there always a but!!) the salary is prorated and as a bit of a rough estimate I have worked it out to be £450 a month. I guess I wouldn't pay any income tax on that amount but the Tax office are going to want me to pay back some of what we owe them, not sure how much a month they would want.

So my million dollar question is ........................................... is it worth it?????????????

It is so, so tight at the minute as we are but in Sept Mr Pips finishes paying our car loan and we are £200 a month better off, giving me a spendable amount of £340 a month. Then it will still be tight but do-able, it will mean absolute minimum payments on my debts and Moorgate are not going to be happy about my loan repayments being reduced so low but it is do-able and means I would still be home for Pip and Pea.

    What would you do?
