Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 19th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all ,
Not so cold here again today, no frost
, its a bit strange. Off to work today, last day :j , Christmas starts tonight in my house
.
Battered chicken tonight with rice, peas and sweet and sour sauce, yum, and will have a glass or two to celebrate Friday/Xmas.
Will have a quick tody before work. And put a wash on. I am still waiting for three parcels, I do hope they come before Xmas two from Amazon, and one from Ebay.
Its dd's last day at school today, they finish at lunchtime, and they are going into town as a group for the afternoon.
Going to go out tomorrow to a local car boot, there is a man there that comes up from Kent, and has lovely veg grown on his small holding, he picks it the day before, and it is beautiful, so will get some for next week, will also pick up a sack of spuds for £4.50, which should last us a month.
Any hoo better get on, hugs to those in need.
Taplady thinking of you today, hope all goes well.
Halight, good luck on the job front today xx
Have good days all xx

Morning Redruby & all who follow
Off to work soon & out on the razz tonight, someone has had to drop out of our works do (£90 plus transport!!!) & has given me their ticket.
School closes at 12:15, but most of the admin staff will be there till 5 as we all still have so much work to do.
I may have the grandchildren over tomorrow so DD & SIL can clear room in the garden for the climbing frame that everyone has clubbed together for.
Hugs to Mudgkin, VickyA & Taplady.
Have a good day eveyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Redruby and all that follow :santa2:
I have a busy day today, Mum finally moves so I need to be over there at about 8.30 and removal men come at 9am, hopefully all will go smoothly fingers crossed:T
I have finished all my crimbo shopping now just need the food which will be delivered on Monday night, I think I will go and get my salad stuff though from the farmshop up the road, last time mr T sent crappy salad:rolleyes:
Had lamb shanks in the SC last night which was lovely, first time I have done them in there with minted gravy will be doing them again, the dogs enjoyed the left over bones too:D
I hope everyone is well, WM just stopped so will hang that on airers before I get out the door, have a good day:D0 -
Morning all
Hester - have lovely time tonight ..... but ....£90 ..... yikes
I'm also out on the razz tonight if mr caring sharing doesn't mess me about too much with picking up dd(12)
Redruby - enjoy your break
Nothing much to report here - I have ust emerged from hiding under my pillow waiting for the girls to leave. The youngest has a party at school today so there were dramas about tops - the one she wanted to wear, borrowed from her 23yo sister, I deemed unsuitable for a school party that ends at midday. Actually that top is one that I deem unsuitable for anyone at any time unless they're a lap dancer but what do i know.
all going well tea tonight will be vodka based but if Mr caring sharing does let me down it will be pizza from the freezer - have a good day everyoneI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
Good morning all.
Taplady - thinking of you on this difficult day. (((((((((hugs)))))))))
Thriftlady - how is DS? Well on the way to recovery, I hope.
Hester - that's great news about the works o; after the year you've had and all the the hard work and hassle it's everything you deserve!
Halight - good luck jobwise.
Well, it's been a funny start to the day; money we were expecting into the business account has not materialised so I'll have to chase that up and re-work our finances for the week. It doesn't help that Christmas is less than a week away! Why do people let you down? I shall try not to feel too down; there's far worse going on in the world. The news seems to be full of doom and gloom - at least Christmas itself will give people time to recharge and forget their troubles, if only for a couple of days.
I still have some wrapping up to do, some paperwork and a small pile of ironing.
Dinner tonight is stovies - just basically mince, onions, carrots, fried, then stock added and cooked in a saucepan until it's all jumbled up and sticking to the pan slightly, and I shall serve it with baked beans. It's really tasty and very cheap! Pudding is undecided - maybe pancakes if I can find a lemon.
Anyway, I'd better go and get showered.
Hope you all have a good day and lots of (((hugs))) to all who are unwell or anxious.

Morning.
Feeling a little better, I think the worst of the man-flu is over. I do feel hot still though..
Work meal was good, excellent food and I got really full. Everything worked out, bills, secret Santa etc, so as the organiser I was happy.
Got a deal from SKY yesterday, half price movies for 4 months. I snapped that one up as £2 a week for movies over Christmas and new year was what I was looking for.
Wondering if my Amazon goods will arrive in time for Christmas? Said they would be here by 22, but that's a hope?
Well working tonight at 5pm. I hate late shift, but I do get the day off.
Cheers folksNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning all
I've been hovering for ages, still unable to get a good nights sleep.
Well DH and I managed to shop till we dropped y/day, we hit Morries, Mr t and Lidle and managed to fill the car with Xmas for DB2 and kids. All pressies to them from us wrapped and pressies for DB2 to give to his kids all boxed up so they can't see them, was hoping they would be at college/school but they broke up y/day. Just have to pop to Homebase and get a tree for them, I've got decs left over so we'll all have fun tonight putting it up with the obligatory glass of cheer.
I'm so excited at seeing them.
Thanks for saying I'm being kind but I couldn't possibly enjoy our Xmas knowing that they would be having a frugal one, I think anyone would do the same if funds allowed. I think it's just another side of O.S.
Didn't have time to bake the apple cake y/day but put it in the oven at 6am so should be done in 15mns.
FIZZLE Sorry to hear your sad news x
TAPLADY, hope all goes well today.
VICKYA, ((((((((( for your DM))))))))
DONNYGIRL, I put sheets and towels out wet on the line when there is a frost, works wonders. Never tried the freezer as it's always to full.
SMOKIE, (((((((((Thinking of you and yours)))))))))))))))
CANDYGIRL, How's your DD and DM? Hope your coping ((((((((((hugs)))))))0 -
Morning everybody:santa2:
DS1 is absolutely fine thanks Mioliere.
Christmas is about to start in our house. Today while the kids are at school I will bake -
4 loaves of white bread (big treat) so that I have breadcrumbs for stuffing and bread sauce, plus some for Christmas tea sandwiches and also a couple of loaves to eat now.
Mince pies using quick flaky pastry (not tried mince pies with this kind of pastry before)
Florentines -lots
OH will be home around the same time as the kids so we will decorate our tree and put up some fairy lights around the sitting room.:xmastree:
Still haven't done all the cards but have done all the shopping (food and present) and wrapped everything. Will pick up turkey from the farm on Wednesday and will get veg, milk and cream too then.
Breakfast -just toast today
Lunch -boys finish school early, ds1 will come home and have cheese on toast with me, ds2 is going to eat pizza at a friend's, dd has ham sandwiches, choc chip muffin and fruit and OH is having a 'complimentary staff buffet' at work (sounds terrible).
Supper will be fish. Going to do bacon-wrapped cod from the Ministry of Food book but with frozen value fish instead of cod. Think we'll have a potato gratin with it and something green. Hot mince pies and cream for pud:rudolf:0 -
Morning All :santa2:,

I think i may have converted my DD1 to OS, i offered to pay for her school dinner today as a treat it being last day of term and all, her reply was no i'll have packed lunch
.

Taplady, I hope all goes well today, thinking of you
I’ve had a good sort through the paperwork, so today I’m going to shred shred shred
I can’t find a new Dairy cook book anywhere, so I’m halfway through copying out my fave recipes. When I’m done, I’ll print them out and put them all in a folder. I might do this with the other cookery books too, then I can put all the books away and have more shelf space in the kitchen.
Today is mr tru’s last day of work before Christmas. Over the next few days he’ll be saying “lets do this, let’s go there” etc. I’ll get no peace whatsoever, so today I’ve given myself the afternoon off. Again
