Hi
I made liver and onions for tea but as I am the only one who likes it there was plenty left over, so i have managed to make up enough for 3 more meals, which I have frozen.
I dont have plastic containers etc to freeze stuff like that so I put just enough for 1 meal into a sandwich bag and folded the top over and placed in the freezer, Is this ok?
What does everyone else use to put food into?I am planning on doing this more often so any hints would be great.:o

I do this as well; but for some reason I then put the meal into a 2nd sandwich bag, just to make sure it doesn't split; you probably don't need to.That's Numberwang!0

My local pound shop has packs of ten containers (for a quid obviously) and they have lids. They are a rectangular shape, and fit into freezer well cos they can be stacked up. I do this a lot and it's easy to take one out in the morning, and leave it in the fridge to defrost until tea time. I make rice pudding in the slow cooker, beef casserole, soups etc. They can be washed out and reused loads of time.:hello:  please play nicely children !0

Thats a good idea! I was thinking that maybe I should have written on the outside of the bag what was in it before I put it in the freezer but I forgot! will remember next time!

Hi linzi,
This older thread should give you some ideas: Freezer containers
I'll merge your thread with that one later to keep all the suggestions together.

Might be an idea to also write on the label when you froze it, so that you can eat up older items first. That's Numberwang!0

do you recall me freaking out about my ham shank yesterday?
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=562481
well, the ham and the soup was/is gorgeous (I clearly don't like the smell of hot ham fat is all)
Anyway, it was a 3lb shank so needed a lot of water to boil it, consequently= a lot of soup! I didn't have enough (in fact any) suitable tupperware to freeze it so came up with an ingenious idea (someone's gonna tell me they've been doin' this for years but what the heck!)
line a soup bowl with a freezer bag, fill the lined bowl with soup, use the bowl to twiz your bag aroung so you can tie a knot in it, then stick it in the freezer! Handy soup bowl sized portions of soup!
We got 8 good sized bowls of soup from last night, plus all the ham from the shank and next door's dog got the bone
the shank cost £2.50 plus the price of a 500g bag of yellow split peas, 5 carrots and 3 onions!0 -
Hi Poet,
I've merged your tip with the freezer containers thread so that others who are looking for help with freezing food will find it easily.
