I use margarine and ice cream tubs. Our evening meal of 2 chicken breasts in sauce is thawing in the fridge at the moment. It will be zapped in the micro when I prepare the rest of the meal.

Home Bargains/Quality Save - they are really cheap in there. You can get a pack of 5 for under a £1, and you get fancier ones for a bit extra, all sorts of shapes and sizes.
With the ones you already have (no lids) why dont you put a freezer bag in them, put your food in the freezer bag, then put in the freezer. Once frozen, take the frozen freezer bag out of the box and you can then re-use the box (and your meal will still be in frozen in a square shape to save space).Loan (orig. £6014.20), now [STRIKE] £5,813.74 [/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£5,063.58[/STRIKE], £5,438.66 debt free Oct 2009

I do this too, after seeing the suggestion on another thread, and can't believe I didn't do it always! :rotfl:
It's amazing how much space you can save by not having that empty inch at the top of containers, and the blocks all fit together neatly. Saves buying extra tubs too. :beer:Oh dear, here we go again.0 -
Costco do a big box of the takeaway ones with lids......think there's about 100 in them...and I think the box costs about £6...

Hi Pollyanna,
We have an older thread on containers for the freezer that should give you some more ideas so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.
These older threads might help too:
where to buy "tupperware" style storage containers?
Food storage containers (not Lock & Lock)
Costco "tupperware" Type containers
OS People. Are you obsessed with containers like me?

You can even pop it out of a tub if you don't have a freezer bag to hand when freezing it. Same with icecubes of things pop them all into a bag. Suppose that's when I started doing it when making baby foods. Those takeaway ones if you don't have a Costco card try £1 shop. One day I might be more organised...........

Thinking of having a cooking day next week and cooking lots of casseroles, currys etc and then freezing them.I have never cooked and froze anything but if it works out ok hoping it will save me lots of money and time.
I need advice on what kind of containers to use and where to buy them from.I do not want to put them in plastic bags any ideas ?I thought of plastic ones but i suppose they would have to be quite deep but not to bulky to fit in freezer does anyone have any ideas.0 -
Hi guys
What do you use for freezing things in portions?
Ive been using little sandwich bags but have a few problems:- they are not very eco-friendly
- cost money
- can weld to other things before frozen
- small portions can be difficult to get out the bags
I need a new system so any tips would be appreciated0 -
Hi Boo,
There's a long thread on freezer containers that should help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.
