we dont know who to turn to my husband is classed as self employed he has a lease on a pub, the debt is huge and already this week we have had 3 bailiffs at the door we are scared to death. the word bankruptcy is scary but we dont know who to contact or where to start any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also had a phone message from a company called westcot asking for a call back to them but dare not, believe they are a debt recovery
company we dread the mail evey morning please can anyone put us in the right direction0 -
I had the same problem with my child benefits where they paid after the bank account had been frozen. I called the benefits service and they said that the bank would return the payment to them which they would then re direct to my new Co-Operative account.
Don’t feel alone about being skint, we are just as bad if not worse, I just had someone give me £5 for petrol to get home from work this afternoon and god alone knows what we are going to eat tonight, have run out of the eggs and bread that we have been eating for the past week now so may be scouting for a soup kitchen tonight, god I hope its not too far as I wont have petrol to get there... LOL !!! Payday is only next Tuesday !!! OMG and I am so !!!!!!!g hungry !!
I had to laugh the other day, I was reading a website that was listing all of the effects of bankruptcy and there was a section "Medical Effects" they had things like stress, anxiety and then the one that made me laugh, "Possible food poisoning/ off food"
Yes I just found it again http://www.piggybankrupt.co.uk/Bankruptcy/consequences_of_bankruptcy.html0 -

Hello catdavlee,
We are not ignoring you but you have posted on a thread that is for people that went or are going bankrupt in Jan. It really doesn't matter except that not everyone will read it and offer you help and advice.
The first thing you or your husband needs to do is contact a debt advice agency - http://www.bdl.org.uk/ Business Debtline are very busy at the moment, one poster took 2 days to get through, but persevere.
You could always try the CAB but it sounds like you will need more specialised help.
At the top of the board there is a sticky entitled Bankruptcy Help that is full of BR info and links to various agencies, have a read through that.
Good Luck

Not daft at all - we have all been there......
Go back to the first page where all the threads are listed. At the top of the list on the left hand side in blue letters is "new thread".
Just click on that and away you go - someone will know more than I do I expect - have you tried Business Debtline ?
We have a lot of self-employed bankruptees on here - he won't be the first or last.....

joburg just re-read your post and laughed my socks off :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:love it they can now add bad flatulence to that from eating too many beans. Ohh cant believe I am in this situ again - I was skint 15yrs ago when I had my first boy and hunted for coins to get bread - even went to the supermarket sometimes to change him with the free nappies and that was the start of me saying enough was enough and really made something of life from there - got an amazing job - nice big 4bed detached house - 2 lovely cars then bang medical probs = loss of job - hubbys business crashing = loosing everything and again searching for coins to get through the week - but I feel ok about it cos done it once and can do it again - onwards and upwards (maybe slightly wind propelled):rolleyes:BR 9th Jan 2009 - Discharged 9th Jan 2010

glad you are feeling a bit happier clanbailey. Have you got anything you can do a quick sale on on ebay to get your hands on some money? If I was feeling the pinch, I used to dig out some books or dvd's we never read or watched and try sell them on to raise some money.
Hope that you do get it sorted soon and make the OR aware of how much you need it. Hope to hear some good news that it has been released to you.

I had no probs with CTC - they sent the very next weeks payment by giro to me.
Child benefit is whole different matter - they said it could take months to set a giro up, and said i should just give them new account number. I explained i had just gone BR and my new account wouldnt be set up until after my next payment is due... she said they will freeze my payments until i contact them with new account details..... heres hoping
