National Accident Database?

  • Yet another cold call. I get several daily on my mobile and mostly from withheld numbers. I usually ignore them, but answer occasionally as my misses sometimes blocks her number then I get in trouble for not speaking to her!

Anyway, similar to many of the posters, I got a call from a guy with a Liverpool accent. I missed the company name but he quoted having got my details from the National Accident Database. I haven't had a claim or accident in about 20 years! I asked him under the 'Data Protection Act' to remove my details from his system and told him I would report his company if I had further cold calls. His response was that it would do no good as I was on the NAD and therefore 1000s of companies could be calling me.

One thing I note from this thread, is that it seems to be more than one company from more than one location making these type of calls. Is there somewhere out there, while not an official 'National Accident Database', a 'Private Information Special Selection That A-holes Keep Exploiting' database?

Again, similar to some of the other posters, about the only thing I've done recently that would connect all my details would be use insurance comparison sites at renewal time. What is going on has to be illegal - either under the terms of any MoJ licence or under the Data Protection Act. Are there any great legal-eagles out there that can suggest how to tackle this blight?
  • I too have received annoying calls from this company and others about accidents They say I've had. One even told me they got the information from my insurance company. After further questions they admitted it was just that the policy was cancelled (I sold the car).

The one today mentioned the NAD but couldn't tell me how it got on there except I must have declared an accident on an insurance comparison site. Definitely not the case.

As for the NAD, contrary to many comments on this forum I've found an NAD does exist on the highways web site but still these I'd have thought scumbags shouldn't have access. Sorry as a new user I can't post a link.
  • Sorry just realised my post may be a little misleading. The NAD isn't on the highways web site but IS mentioned on the highways website.

Are you talking about National Accident Data? If so, that is statistical data - not something that would have your name and mobile number on it.
  • Had mobile calls for a few weeks now form a company called ccs - claims consultant service - asking me questions on vehicle accidents in the last 5 years .; They claim that they have my details from the national accident database. Does this database exist? when questioned on information about there company and head office address details etc they are sketchy and cant produce any direct telephone numbers or address for they head office . (apparently in Manchester). and keep asking me details of accident and say they only gather information and send it off to a closer/solicitor.
How do i stop the calls? and how do i report harassment from a company i can't find ?

Best way to stop them is to use a call blocker (they reportedly ignore any requests not to call again) which will cut them off and your phone won't ring.

(They will stop once you are too late to make any claim - you have 3 years to put in an injury claim)
  • Still going on - I get at least one a day. Last number used was 0203 758 9722, saying they were ARC's Legal Dept, and yes, they got the details from The National Accident Database.

If I don't answer, they autodial again 10 seconds later ....very annoying. It seems that no-one has the ability to stop these parasites from operating.

Possibly daft question, but are you registered with the TPS? (http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html) It might not stop the calls but at least you can tell them they are breaking the law.

    they said something like
"Please listen carefully to what I am about to say. This is classified as a hard rejection. I wish to be removed, with immediate effect, from your database and any subsequent databases that you see fit to create or distribute amongst your company or sister companies or companies to whom you pass on my details whether for financial gain or not. You must record this astatement as a hard rejection and as such should I receive calls from your company within the next 6 months I shall see this as harrassment and shall take legal advice. do you understand the statement I have read to you"
they'll prolly hang up after the first sentance but some of them will listen and it's certainly stopped me getting cold calls on my home phone.

  • Just got the same call (had about one every two weeks for the last six months). This time I got fed up and asked them where they got the info as it was clearly wrong. They said the "National Accident Database", I asked them for the address of this so I could get taken off the list. The lady then went on to say that "your details are passed from company to company if you ever forgot to tick the 'dont share my details' button on a website".

So I said "Are you telling me that you infact do NOT know that I had an accident and that indeed there is no accident database with my name on it" to which she responded with "No - that's why we carefully say at the start of our call 'We believe you may have had an accident in the last 2.5 years' and not 'We know you have ..".

Also - this was a call from a person with an accent from Liverpool, but I have also had plenty of the same calls from Indian sounding sources.
