Your first point about a failing product, well up until 3 months ago JLR were having the most successful year in their entire history. That tells me they must have been doing something right.
Your second point about building a bus in a car factory.Words fail me.Have you seen the difference in height between that bus and a car?It wouldnt fit in a car factory for starters and secondly what is built is built on dedicated tooling, you cant change that overnight or in months.
While it is true that I know little about the car industry (and have no particular wish to learn about anything to do with cars), I do think the market for luxury products of any kind will diminish considerably during the next couple of years. The whole economy overheated due to uncontrolled borrowing, including the car industry.
If Jaguar were to be helped out financially, they could surely use the money to set up the appropriate facilities for building the afore-said buses, thereby keeping people in work? This was just one idea for them to change their modus operandi. I am sure that minds more informed than mine could think of others. As mentioned, they could also focus on developing cutting edge environmentally friendly vehicles.
What, in your view, would be the point of bailing them out (with taxpayers' money) without any change in their manufacturing plans, only for them to go bust anyway further down the line because no one wants their luxury products? It would be a complete waste of our money.0 -

JLR build cars , their factories are set up to build cars and nothing can change that. It would be like asking Tesco to build ships in a superstore.
As for their future plans i can only presume and hope they have more environmentally friendly products in the pipeline, but as already stated this cant be changed overnight.-....-.---.---. ..... .- -.-.

There is always talk about JLR and moving their operations to India at some point. At the moment TATA make some pretty crappy cars in India, they haven't got the technical expertise to do anything more prestigious. However, if you buy a well established european marque you will naturally start to gain the technical knowledge needed to bring things up to speed elsewhere (and can depend on your supply base for the rest). There is a risk in the future that Tata could move all operations to India once they are confident it would be successful.
Tata also own Corus steel, which have a good interest in manufacturing on the whole. In JLR went bust it wouldn't be good for the rest of their business (ie steel).
For what it's worth, JLR are researching and developing more economical vehicles (such as the new one with stop-start). Also, although the military rely on land rovers they no doubt only rely on the rugged models and it wouldn't matter what happened to most of the road models and their production.
To be honest I think a) The Government wont bail Land Rover out, b)Tata will keep it going for the time being at least c)any announcements will be on christmas day/boxing day. As someone in the JLR supply chain I would prefer good news but these things happen. Either way they wont disappear overnight.matched betting: £879.63
