Is that what it boils down to ?posh people driving Jaguars? What a sad life you must live eaten up with jealousy hoping everyone else descends to your miserable level.-....-.---.---. ..... .- -.-.

I for one am not a "posh b4stards in my x type Jag "
I worked hard for many years and maximised my income to afford mine,4 years old paid cash 30% below book price.Own my house, and just got 33k back from Iceland.I have got a pot to p1ss in,but don't use it,and I don't p1ss it up against the wall in the pub either. This site should of taught you by now it's not what you earn it's how you spend your cash that counts.Don't judge a book by it's cover!
I was made redundant 28 months ago along with more than 4000 others from a 5400 workforce, got another job and made redundant after 23 months, lookiing for work again but in the meantime enjoying hard earned break.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
Jaguar are surely a symbol of Great Britain? The E Type, Swinging Sixties, James Bond, etc. OK they may be foreign owned but at least they're screwed together (or however you make cars), in the UK so why not support it and the workers it employs? Given a choice (as if) between someone who actually makes something, and say the bunch of chancers that ran Northern Rock I know which I would support.
Even if I can't afford to own one, I don't mind admiring a bit of style as it drives past, especially when it's British heritage.
Mewbie goes patriotic, Land of Hope and Glory on the Sony MP3 player, and a good old British Tandoori in the offing.0 -

No you are wrong. What I am saying that many of these folk driving these cars cannot afford them really and therefore need credit to buy them, and that seems to have dried up for them as it has for many others, now it seems folk are going to live within their means, something I was taught to do. Oh and if I wanted one I could go and buy one for cash myself
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -

I sort of agree with you – but don't agree that they should be bailed out in order to produce more of a failing product.
If they were bailed out and were to produce the new London buses, for example, I would be in favour of that. (I actually think these buses are a good thing, and well designed, and that the bendy buses should go.) Also, if they were bailed out and put all their efforts into developing (really developing, not just saying they would if they were given money) a really good, innovative, enviornmentally clean vehicle, I'd be in favour of that.
I wouldn't be in favour of bailing them out to continue as they have been doing, because it would be throwing our money away on a lost cause.0 -

With all due respect why do people bother posting when they havent the slightest clue what they are talking about. Most of the people on this thread wouldnt know what a car factory is even if they woke up in bed next to one.
Your first point about a failing product, well up until 3 months ago JLR were having the most successful year in their entire history. That tells me they must have been doing something right.
Your second point about building a bus in a car factory.Words fail me.Have you seen the difference in height between that bus and a car?It wouldnt fit in a car factory for starters and secondly what is built is built on dedicated tooling, you cant change that overnight or in months.-....-.---.---. ..... .- -.-.

Hello Scooter100,
I must admit I agree with most of your arguments, but the world is now at the start of a BIG change.
If TATA is not willing to backup its investment in what they bought, they should walk away, but leave the companies to the recievers.
Most of the western world has been living beyond its means for quite a while.
We have to change.
I would like the british goverment to relise what the loss of the maufacturing skill they will loose, so buy it back at a cheap price and turn it to manufacturing the cars of the future. This country has the knowledge, the skill and the inventivness of the best people in the world. We can lead the rest of the world into this NEW BEGINING it will take a bit of work, but we lead the rest of the world in most inovative things, why not use this time to forward our natural inventivness.
One door shuts ... another door opens.
This is what I am doing with my company.
I know this is a small amount of words for the task ahead, but to be honest its been coming for years. If you weigh more than the space you take, You will sink !.0 -

They are already doing it - really doing it. But of course even that takes money and time.
I agree with Scooter100 .It seems alot of people are only going on what they read in the papers or hear on the news (the headlines)
They don't seem to fully understand what is going on.
They still see JLR as making vehicles no-one wants but don't realise how welll they were doing unitl just a few months ago.
JLR are not asking for a bail out purely for themselves, they are asking for the government to help with short term loans and loan guarantee's as part of the whole industry, according to the CEO of JLR.
Have a read of this:

It's talking about what would happen in JLR did go.
This whole thing is bigger than just 1 motoring company.0 -
Then the credit ran out around 3- 6 months ago.
Did I see on the News recently Aston Martin working on a new bus design ?? Obviously covering their backs for a stormy time ahead for luxury cars.
They all need other products/ angles if they want to survive, times are changing.
I agree with Waterwalkers post also.I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -

They were joint winners of a competition to design a new routemaster bus.

Sports car manufacturer Aston Martin is joint winner of a competition to design a new Routemaster bus for London.
The Warwickshire-based firm's winning entry was a team effort with leading architects Foster and Partners. They share the £25,000 first prize with bus, coach and truck design firm Capoco Design, based in Wiltshire.
