Should Jaguar be bailed-out????

I understand that a lot of people may lose their jobs, and that is never a nice thing!

i know their just talking at the moment but should every large private company be bailed out when things get rough, surely the company who own them should be responsible for their future!

I was just wondering about this having heard it on the news.
IIRC TATA owns them, I have no idea how their business is coping.

Apart from the banks this will be the first time public money has been used to prop up a company I think?

I'm undecided whether it should be or not. Irrelevant, as it probably will anyway,

another sh*tty company that cant get through a recession. if we bail it out that'll be another little increment to be added to future tax rises. its not even british owned.

i think the taxpayer has bailed enough companies out already.

    Could'nt agree more.
  • Why would they need bailing out? I thought they were owned by TATA, one of the largest richest companies in the world!

  • Oh, and by the way, years ago British Leyland were bailed out, nationalised in fact, at the cost of billions and billions.

And look what happened to them!

Ironically, Jaguar were a part of BL back then.

In my opinion there should be no bail out.

I run a small business from my home office and I am responsible for that, why should the government bail me out if I !!!! it up?? The answer of course is they shouldn't so why should they with a company of even bigger size?

  • IIRC Tata have an instalment to pay on the aquisition of JLR from Ford sometime in the spring of about £1bn, and they haven't got it. IMHO Tata bought JLR as a prestige thing. There are no economies of scale to be had, no platform sharing with Tata Motors. Tata also own the Rover brand, The rebadging of the Tata Indica as a CityRover didnt work. Unless JLR can find a real partner its future is bleak. If Tata cannot afford their toy they should sell it, not hold out the begging bowl.
If push comes to shove then HM Govt should nationalise it for a nominal sum.

But then politics comes into play, Tata also own Corus steel, so if they stamped their feet and took their ball home Tata could create havoc in the UK economy:eek:

  • You may all be interested to hear that TATA, the owners of the 'stuggling' JLR, have just signed a deal to sponsor the Ferrari F1 team next year. Seems to me like they have plenty of money. JLR is no longer a British company, its Indian owned. Let their government help their company out. I know its British worker who will get effected, but the reason we are in this mess is because money was spent to such an extent that companies which were not viable, survived and grew. JLR should have gone a long time ago, the Recession is only pointing out companies that were weak to begin with and only survived because of the boom. If they go bust then thats a fact of live. It creates an opportunity for another car firm, or for the country to focus on other industries. Keeping failing industries afloat in this country will cost us more in the long run. The fact is that most car companies don't need any money. They want it to keep their profits up. They have been making stupid profits on us for too long. If they cut the price of their cars they wouldn;t need any help. Let them go under, or force them to change the way they work. We have money, but are no longer willing to throw it away!
