i was just referring tosafety of the cars and not overall rankings. the top in safety as per the wikipedia pages on rover landrover jaguar with reference to car on car crashes is jaguar , landrover and one model of mercedes. the wiki page has rerences from govt and other statictics. whats more is that they also say that the reason why landrover was chosen for armed forces is that supposedly they are easier to service and repair in the field. also read something on the SAS wiki page they seem to be one of the vehicles they are taught to service apart from honda bikes etc.
may be thats the reason tata bought landrover probably with an eye on exports to countries with poor servicing networks and defense industry elsewhere.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
Government (and us taxpayers) should only bail out companies that are beneficial to the british public
Together, Jaguar and Land Rover are believed to be the UK's most valuable automotive export, shipping over £6billion worth of automotive product overseas each year.

If you think we can afford to lose £6 billion of exports then you are sadly deluded.-....-.---.---. ..... .- -.-.

Apparently the first half of this year was one of the best for JLR profit wise - not much comfort now though!0

It's not going to be £6 billion next year though is it. Why can't they just make a % of the workforce redundant to take into account the lower sales?
I have run my own company for the past 3 years. I am looking for work now as it isn't making enough money anymore. I have not rung up Peter Mandelson and asked how many people I need to employ in order to be big enough to be bailed out.0 -

They have started down that route and even if they get government help there will almost certainly be more to follow.

but doesn't that solve the problem? why do they still need taxpayer money?
recessions will always happen. surely a company that is so big should have plans in place for when they do? like quickly being able to lose a % of the workforce, quickly & cheaply temporarily shut down a plant / part of a plant & so on?0 -

Recessions are normally well signalled in advanced and everyone knows they are coming. What has happened in the car sector is that car sales have fallen off a cliff since october (all confidence vanished after the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers). No company can manage a %30-%40 drop in business overnight. This is also the first worldwide recession for generations the last two were unique to Britain or Britain and USA.-....-.---.---. ..... .- -.-.

if this is true then the banks(bigger enterprises) should not have been bailed out.
the fact of the matter is these are extreme times in recent history and the aim of the government is to help people stay in jobs. and for that reason they are taking on enormous debts.
the cost of not bailing out JLR will be far more as has been discussed in this forum earlier.0 -
If Jags and Land Rovers are not selling because people can't get credit what will change if they get bailed out.?? They still can't get credit, still won't sell them so what's the point. The point being also many of these so called posh b4stards in their Jags didn't have a pot to p1ss in all along, it has all been a falicy, They should go back to Mondeos etc.I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0

I think that no taxpayer money should be lavished on Jaguar. MG Rover were allowed to rot - so should Jaguar.
GGThere are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.0
