Most times Royal Mail is excellent - apart from Christmas of course when there is the chance of things taking longer. Having said that an item on a BBC News blog http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/magazinemonitor/2008/12/going_postal_iii_3.shtml cites them performing well.0

I've sent about three letters by special delivery (all mobile phone cashback claims) that although were delivered weren't signed for. I did once send in a claim for a refund of the special delivery charge which they did do quite promptly.0
