Too soon to look I think... nothing to record till it's delivered, then the proof doesn't get to the website immediately. As far as I understand it, in terms of speed of delivery RD gets no special treatment, unlike SD; so in the same way that anything sent first class runs the risk of not actually gettng there the next day, this wouldn't either just because it's RD.
At this time of year I wouldn't bank on it :( but obviously a bonus if it did :)
I posted two items that day (17/12) one to the Building Soc with cheque, and other a passport reapplication with expired passport, photos, cheque, etc. The latter item RM reports has left their delivery office only today (20/12) so should be there now. The BS items reports not delivered. I got someone at the building society (a small one) to look in their post room today. He could find nothing but says there are still sacks of post in the post room. Christmas really does show things up. I'm having the building society guy phone me midday Monday to tell me if it has arrived. Apparently they are very busy with ISA applications.

A relation in Devon sent a parcel to us second class and it was here in three days - that was 18/12.

I guess were both sent SD then? You need to contact Royal Mail and find out what happened as the QOS can fall at christmas due to excessive amounts of mail however that doesn't mean that the targets shouldn't be met on SD.

As for the Devin issue. I would guess this would be due to less post going through mail centres in devon compared to surrey / london (where abouts are you from, as your post probably goes through Nine Elms).

Most of the bottlenecks at christmas occur from inward sorting from post boxes / companies and probably less on inward from other mail centres.

No it was Recorded Delivery. Passport - Durham I think, the building Society - Macclesfield. You are prob right about the mail from Devon to here.
  • Unfortunately, you have posted at the busiest time of year and recorded does not guarantee delivery, though it provides greater compensation than you get from 1st class.

Hopefully, the BS will get back to you on Monday with good news for you.

it provides exactly the same compensation level
£36,100 times the cost of a 1st class stamp

Good News - My RD application with cheque did get there Monday (actually saw a signature on the RM site as well:rolleyes: ) - and the BS phoned me this morning to tell me it had got there OK.
Bad News - I failed the electronic ID, though they couldn't tell me why. If they use the Electoral Register, we are opted out of the Edited version, so don't know if that could be a reason. They told me they have sent a letter out requesting ID, but said I could possibly shortcut by sending it out sooner. So I had to hurredly get some ID together and got it off by Special Delivery at about lunchtime today. Hopefully it'll get there by the time they close at 1pm tomorrow ane they can deal with it. Why can't things be nice and simple? Why don't they just ask for ID up front? Oh well :snow_laug

    no reason why it shouldnt
if its a large company with loads of mail i would expect it to be a van run and thus usually there fairly early
  • I phoned a while ago to let them know I'd sent by SD. I asked if it got any special treatment so to speak or whether it gets mixed in a pile of ordinary mail that day. They were still going through mail from the previous day, but I had the impression my SD would get priority - but maybe they were just telling me what I wanted to hear! LOL. Oh well I can do no better than that. Umm the Cheshire BS - think they are probably fairly small as they have just merged with Nationwide along with another smaller BS.

tbh in most places one a letter hits their mail room then its just a letter regardless of how its sent

From my own personal experiences I think Royal Mail are brilliant, I've never had a problem and I think most of their charges are very reasonable. On two occasions I've posted parcels to Northern Ireland on a Friday afternoon and in both cases they were delivered on Saturday Morning.
A problem shared is a problem multiplied. :o
