Live on £4000 for a Year, 2009 Challenge, part 1

IKWYM Mrs McC.(although I wish that you'd stayed with us) I'm doing my own version of the challenge and realise that I'll never have time to read every post now that it's become such a popular place to be. However, it helps me focus on my 2009 target so I'll struggle along getting help when I trip up.
Went to Mr A's last night, saved something on Whoopsies but discovered that a £1.90 chicken sandwich Whoopsie had gone through the till at full price instead of the 10p yellow sticker price. I'd already eaten it by the time I checked my shopping receipt so I'll just take it as a lesson for future forays. I'll also ask the checkout person to put any whoopsies through first as it'll be easier to keep track. Oh well, at least the sandwich tasted nice.
Edited to change total spend. Popped into Library and found out I had a fine of 80p. Nearly cried!" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Nope, Nyk -nothing anyone has said or done-Its just that the thread is busy enough with everyone trying to keep track of all their out goings -Im only Keeping control of the housekeeping -so figured If I dropped out it would be one less person "cluttering up" the thread
and might make it easier for everyone else to keep up..... hope that makes sense
Im still sticking to the same budget that I set myself -Im just doing it on my ownesome :rotfl: ..... Probably won't have time to post much once spring arrives anyway as I will be out in my Potio appotment -once the 6" of snow and -15 weather has gone
hope everyone is doing ok .... I will no doubt stick my nose in from time to time-
Please do MrsM,
I was liking your handbags and scarves. I'm also looking forward to hearing the gardening exploits of everyone and you sound as if you are a good gardener. xx0 -
Managed NSD by not leaving the house ! However, I've tried to sort my kitchen out and spent a fair bit in my head - I need to get organised in there.
I've got one of those pull out larder wotsits and it's taken me some time to get used to it (moved into house a couple of months ago). I've given it a good sorting out and found loads of things I didn't know I had, so that helps with my grocery spending.
Joined in the Flylady thread on OS board because the house is a tip. My kitchen is now sparkling and TIDY
Not done much study today though and I've an assignment due in on Monday so must get stuck in tomorrow.
I have no clue why I struggle so much with getting things done - I have more time available now than ever before in my life. I used to live in a huge house with an OH who was hopeless with domestic stuff, commute to a full time job, leaving the house at 6.30am (or earlier sometimes) and not getting home till 7.30pm. I did that five days a week and also worked a half day on Saturdays. And managed the housework much better than I do now.
Hugs to everyone who needs them - anyone with the flu I hope you're recovering quickly.0 -
Evening everyone.
Just a quick update here (I need to spend more time doing rather than reading:rolleyes:
.... lol)
Really sorry to hear Mrs M has left the challenge .... hope all is well xx :grouphug:
Hugs for those that need them xx
I'm glad you got your water sorted JD, just heard on the radio that we're in for some pretty harsh weather here over the next 24/48 hours - I think I might keep my heating on low all night, can't cope with any frozen pipes here atm as hubby is away with work ! I'd probably end up making it worse trying to sort it  :rotfl:
I think Pip's little 'un must be waiting until the weather warms up a bit - hope you're ok Pip !wish you all the best for when the day does arrive  xx
Sorry if I've forgotten to mention anyone, i'll come on and catch up properly later on tonight.
Had to buy eggs today so will go and update sig in a minute. I caught the bus into Worthing today to meet up with my boss (we needed to do some shopping for work) so I claimed by bus fare as expenses.
She also bought me lunchwhich was lovely - we were going to go out before Xmas but I was off with the kids when they had the flu so we never got to go.
Having bacon and onion quiche tonight (made 2 so one will go in the freezer), mash and baked beans. Not sure about dessert tonight, might just have a few chocs from the many boxes we got at Xmas.
Need to spend 1/2 hour in DS room tonight after tea tidying up (too many things and not enough space to put them so major sort out needed). Going to tackle it in 1/2 hour blocks so I can cope with the stress lol  . Hopefully I can persuade him to put some bits on freecycle for another little boy.
Hope everyone has a good evening :beer::jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -
Not a NSD for me today, popped to tesco again and spent £15.71 on food and cleaning stuff....should be able to stay away from tesco until next week now!November NSD's - 70

Thanks MrsM, I know this thread is becoming really busy but I don't envy you the grocery challenge thread! I have no hope of keeping up with MSE forums plus work and homelife, but I do try to pop in there most days and certainly any time I spend anything or do anything regarding my participation in the monthly GC.
My delivery of shoes arrived and what a fab buy! I am really pleased with my 4 pairs of rubber cloggs. They are in perfect condition, so my guess is that they have been slashed in price because of a misprint on the labels. For anyone that hasn't a clue what I'm talking about, I wear 'mock cr0cs' both as indoor shoes instead of slippers and as gardening shoes because they can be washed under the tap. Underfivepounds.com have them in their sale, so I ordered 4 pairs - 2 for me, 2 for adding into gardening associated gift baskets. 4 pairs cost me £10.33 inc P&P, childrens' sizes are even cheaper. I got different colours so I won't confuse my indoor pair with outdoor pair.
I've also treated myself to a proper .co .uk domain name for my 2009 frugal project, but have classed it as a business expense, as I'll be using it to record what I manage to sell throughout the year, as part of the start a cottage industry challenge on MSE. It's all part of (hopefully) eventually becoming money neutral. I've masked it over my blog pages.:jI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Think I'm coming down off my motivational high that has lasted since I rejoined at the start of the year, feel tired tonight so beans on toast all round for dinner!
Anyway, had a bee in my bonnet with tesco and they only have eat by today meat avaliable on the cheap, so, rang up the head office and they told me there should be a 3/4 day shelf life and they're ringing up the store so we'll see.(fingers crossed).Payment a day challenge: £236.69
Jan Shopping Challenge: £202.09/£250
Frugal Living Challenge: £534.64/150000 -
Well mamma mia went down well with the oldies, lots of singing along and laughing through it all. They scoffed all the huge box of Thorntons I took down so tht will save me eating them;)
Had first lot of sprouted seeds(mung and green lentils) at lunchtime with some houmous on bread, lovely and crunchy and tasty - def another cheap way of supplementing the fruit and veg intake and very nutritious. Think I will just keep rotating the seeds now so that there will alwys be something ready to eat, great that it is so quick to grow them. The chickpea sprouts are taking a little longer.
The chives I planted last week are also sprouting now in kitchen - lovely that things are starting to grow.:D0 -
