SM, what if you got quails or something similar instead? That's not the same as getting more chickens...
I've found out we can only put our expenses claims for work in monthly, but I'm going to have to pay for a B&B next week at £75, plus food, petrol, and a couple of meals this week, and probably another 4 B&B nights plus food later this month. Lucky I have a 0% credit card, if they turn out to be slow in paying! Good news is at least I won't be eating as much food at home...Live on £11k in 20110 -
SM - possibly also worth pointing out that just 'cos a place allows pets doesn't mean they'd allow chickens. I own my house, but still can't have chickens -- the deeds state that we're not allowed livestock of any description on the property.
Sorry to hear about the chickens SM, the post reminded me our deeds say we can keep chickens and pigs but the pigs are not allowed to sleep in the kitchen.Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -

Really sorry to hear about your chickens SM. Personally I think it's perfectly okay for you to be feeling both disappointed and sorry for yourself - this is something you've wanted for a long time and are being stopped by nothing that you have done; why wouldn't you feel frustrated? I can empathise with the 'living in' side of things - when I was in a boarding house the lack of privacy was really trying (I couldn't even see my own fiance, despite him being a senior teacher there!). Another idea for the chickens is one you mentioned previously, about people with too much garden wanting someone to put it to good use - maybe that's an avenue worth investigating? Or keep pestering the allotment guy? I hope you can find a way. You're also right though, you are already living 'the good life'
Well done on the ipod win, was it the_cat? :TSo many other things to comment on but I've forgotten the lot now, sorry!
In good news here, I'm being paid on Friday, along with a big lump sum upfront - my first 'pay packet' :j
ps I ordered my notebook just now to celebrate :jand am still going to experiment with making my own :T

Just been looking at how little I have left for the month, and found out I have £50 to pay out in February that I hadn't accounted for, so am determined to have the next 3 days totally NSD. So Wed, Thu, Fri. I don't have to go out anywhere, and to get some fresh air I'll just take a walk WITHOUT MY PURSE  .
Saturday I have to go for an OU tutorial and the train fare will be ££££.
Had some mashed pots leftover reheated with beans and a bit of grated cheddar earlier. Breakfast was porridge (which I really dont like) and I didn't have any lunch.
I've got a bottle of wine for tonight - will try to only drink half of it :rotfl::rotfl:
Tomorrow I'll stay in and catch up on my studying and clean the kitchen. Which is still a tip because I still haven't got stuck in..0 -
Hello No 1 Frufan reporting for duty:D
A couple of websites I've come across today which may yield some more frugal tips for you [including how to make your own spirits:eek: ]
www.wildmanwildfood.com -this has some wildfood recipes on and is the chap who was featured on the Living Without Money prog last night. However, I don't yet think OH is ready for a dish made from roadkill fox although the meat may be fresher than from the supermarket!!
Another one I've found is www.goselfsufficient.co.uk which may be worth a second look.

PS Have also posted this on another frugal forum I belong to if it looks familiar to anyone:D
PPS Sorry to hear about your chickens SM. I am sure you will find an alternative route when the time is right.Aiming for a life of elegant frugality wearing a new-to-me silk shirt rather than one of hair!0 -

Good point cw:D I don't suppose I would be allowed to dig up the garden and plant veggies either:p
The more i think about the pro's and cons the more we are likely to stay here - chickenless;)
Bit late for today but just for the record;

- make some humous to have with some of my first batch of sprouted seeds tomorrow

Evening everyone.
SM- sorry to hear about the chickens x
the_cat- well done on winning the itouch, they are great DD got one of her dad last year, you can even browse the internet on them and loads of other stuff as well.
got a few bits done today as i'm feeling alot better now. took the christmas tree down, hovered, washed up and one lot of washing, I was just about to start my essay todaay when my ex OH called round, so guess I will just to start it tomorrow. I'm glad I have started coming back on here more, it's getting me more motivated :j, I even dug out the BM the other day, stopped using it when DS had his accident because he couldn't eat solid food for weeks, he fell flat on his face and smashed his face and teeth. when the ex came round he went and got me some milk and didn't want the money for it so today has ended up a NSD:T. I must phone my HA tomorrow, got black mold in the bathroom ,I keep cleaning it but it just keeps coming back, the condensation has got realy bad since they took out the storage heaters and put in radiators.
big hugs for everyone, shelley xBack on MSE again! to take control of my finances and not let it control me. :T May grocery challenge £41.96/1400 -
Good evening all!!
I am officially addicted to this thread, when i'm not reading it at work, i'm reading it on my mobile or at home!!:j
Day 6 - my first official NSD :T I also batch cooked spicy carrot soup (which is weight watchers friendly) which should be enough for me for lunch three days. (i have only a tiny freezer at the top of my fridge which is full to the brim at the mo so freezing wasnt an option)
I took the advise of someone who posted earlier and joined weight watchers last night as in the long run it'll save me money as i wont have to buy more clothes - going to return the new work suit i bought last weekend which was a size bigger in the hope i will soon fit back in my old one!!
I'm gonna find it hard to balance money saving with eating healthily as i find healthy food is much more expensive and i dont have time to prepare meals as i work 12 hrs a day but armed with my new shopping list plan and meal plan i'm hoping to cook all required healthy food at the weekend ready for the week ahead. (any ideas/bargains/recipes will be welcomed with open arms!)
Still havent made any extra money this month..there are no assignments available on any of the mystery shopping websites i belong to nor am i qualifying for any surveysah well off to have a bath then i'll be back to catch up later!!
