  • Hi, im a newbie ..need some advice:confused:

Started a DMP in December with Payplan ...have now made 3 monthly payments of low payments, have a total debt of £65k with 13 creditors est. repayment time 2064. Although i felt relieved to take the plunge a couple of months ago, i have started to worry that i owe more now then when i started the DMP and can not see an end to the debt, only 2 of my creditors have accepted the plan and i am getting default charges from others weekly in the post...hence the total is going up...meaning the time is going up. I am hoping to up the payments to payplan but at present im just finding my feet as i didnt have any spare cash when i entered into the DMP.

Sorry to waffle..:o but OH still hasnt got to grasps with the DMP and basically leaves me to sort everything out...im not sure whether i have done the right thing? and did anyone else have a huge est. time to repay debts when first started...any advice is welcome !

KrazyKat - You will always end up paying more at the start because of all the charges that will get added on. You maybe able to claim this back further down the line. I'm afraid I can't help much with the DFD, mine was originally 20 years, and most of them accepted or defaulted. Not sure if the defaults are a good thing or not...

  • Thanks very much for giving me a number :p

I'm not sure what my DFD date is yet. At the moment my CCCS debet remedy says my current debt will take 4 years, but I have an HFC loan with 2 payments left which couldn't be entered into my DMP as it's in my sisters name, so after these 2 months I'll have an extra £250 to put towards my DMP. My car insurance is also up for renewal and I've found it £22 cheaper so that will help too. Also I've been led to believe I'll be getting a pay rise in April, although not confirmed, so I'm looking forward to my DFD being alot closer in the next few months. :j
Do what you want because in the end people will judge you anyway.

Thank you - please keep me posted - would love to know how you get on. We are doing a joint DMP as I have no income at the moment (doing my final year of teacher training in September but took a year out to look after my boy). My hubbie is in the fishing industry and has "interesting" accounts to say the least, which is all very well, but he is leaving it up to me to sort stuff out - it's very difficult :o

Wishing you all the best, CM.
Hi CornishMaid, just to let you know we have heard absolutely zilch from any of OH's creditors yet, no phone call, letter or anything, they have cashed the cheques and thats it. Not sure if thats a good or bad thing, will have to wait and see.
It is difficult trying to sort stuff out when the self employed aspect makes things complicated, but so far so good with us (maybe, I hope I haven't cursed us now)

The good news from us is that OH has actually got a "proper" job i.e. no longer self employed, work was becoming too few and far between and we basically decided that things could'nt carry on like that so things may change again on the DMP front for us in the next few months. We may decide to do a joint one which would ceratainly make life a lot easier.

My next job is to request CCA's from everyone, specially RBS who are still not playing ball with us and are just annoying the hell out of me so I'm going to start being more proactive with them. They responded to my last letter asking them to stop the interest with a very short letter saying "no we can't and we look forward to reciving your repayment proposals" I've been on the DMP since last October!!
And after that I'm going to put bank charge reclaiming in motion, with a view to getting it looked at under hardship rules. Not really expecting much from that(again RBS) but at least the claim will be in when the court case is finally settled.

    Hello,

As the wife is the only one currently working (and I receive no JSA) and may be in for a pay rise and bonus in the next 4 month...generally how does this affect your DMP (if it's up and running by then) as she may get 5K plus and 2K bonus......?

Turn back 19 month and for 2 days we had a plan to pay it all back in 6 month and I loose my job..........ironic

    Thanks in advance.
