Wednesday 17th December

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for wednesday 17th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning Everyone!!

I cant believe I'm the first to start the thread this morning. But my cold has kicked in good style this morning so I've been awake since 1am shivering and sweating.I only got up cos I was in desperate need of a brew:o

Cold or no cold off into town later as I need some choccies for ES class Christmas Party tomorrow.I'm not giving it out of the Christmas stash thats mine mine all mine!!!:rotfl:

Then its back home to bake some cakes for the girls to take into their Christmas Parties.I'm thinking a choccy traybake each decorated with buttercream and choccy buttons.I can portion it up then before they take it into school and should make it easier to handle for the teachers

As per usual there is the everlasting pile of washing and ironing to tackle.Dont need to make any bread today as I had both bm's going yesterday

I reckon Macaroni Cheese and salad for tea as I can make it in advance just in case I get any worse. There are two jellies in the fridge the kids can have with ice cream for pud.

Before I go did anyone else notice large queues outside Abbey building Societies yesterday? With all the stuff on the news about the Santander group losing money in the stock market scam I was wondering if people were panicking and withdrawing their savings

Good morning Ravylesley - I was up early but not as early as you! I hope your cold doesn't hang around for too long.

I've been sat knitting because it's too early to do anything else yet.

I have a huge pile of ironing to do so will get that done this morning; then the kitchen floor desperately needs washing. After that, I need to pop down to the village to pick up a few bits and pieces.

Dinner tonight will be pork chops, mashed pots and beans so that will be easy to do. The BM will be going on in a minute. I'm doubling production this week to put enough bread in the freezer to save me having to make it over Christmas. I also have some more wrapping up to do but these will be presents to go under the tree, so that will make it more exciting for DGS and DGD.

Nelski - I just read your post from yesterday. I felt the same and didn't think I was OS enough to keep posting, but I find the friendliness and support on here irresistible and couldn't stay away too long!

I hope all those who are unwell, have unwell loved ones or are anxious, have a good day today. (((Hugs))) for those in need.

Fortunately, we don't bank with Abbey - we used to but were so appalled with their customer 'service' that we closed the account within a few months of opening it! I don't blame people if they are withdrawing their money - nothing seems safe any more, does it?

I'd better go and put the kettle on - again!

    Morning :D

I am up so early considering I am off on holiday this week:rolleyes: Just popped a wash on and need to have a serious tidy up, I seem to have loads of empty boxes that just keep getting moved around the house so I will flatten them and take them to the recycling this morning.
Yesterday I helped Mum clean her new house that she moves into Friday, I went armed with stardrops and cloths and was amazed when she said ' oh I bought some of them in wilko because you said they were good' :D so we have another converted stardrop fan:T After all the cleaning we hung 2 sets of curtains and today my arms ache from all that stretching:T :T I went to weight watchers last night, I have been going for 11 weeks now and I have lost 33lbs in total so I am over the moon:T I think I will put a fair few on over christmas but hey I can start again in January.
I was supposed to have chicken in the sc yesterday but I went to prepare everything and looked at the date on the packet and it said 13th Dec and I had the shopping delivered on the 13th Dec I think thats a bit mean of Mr T's so I have e-mailed them but no response as yet.
Need to make some soup today and have a clear up, will wrap the couple of pressies that are left and make a list of what is left to do before santa comes:D Have a lovely day everyone:D
For those of you with colds, mine only lasted 5 days so hopefully yours will go before crimbo

Morning. Good old man flu still present and seems to be digging in for the long haul. fever.gif. I have to work today at 3pm till midnight, so I guess I have an excuse to go home early if I feel like it.

Managed to get almost all of the Christmas stuff yesterday. Just a few odd things to find from Amazon and hope they make it in time. I was a bit put out that one thing I put in my basket in the morning went up by £4 in 3 hours. So it came out of the basket again!

There is the last late night shopping tonight in Truro. Although I am not planning a purchase, I might go along. I am working, but can probably manage to be there for some of the time...

    Well, have a nice day

  • Good Morning All

Had a terrible nights sleep, tossing and turning all night, had really bad indigestion and had mistakenly ordered a coffee whilst out which was soo strong so that didnt help. Once have seen DS to school think may try for another couple of hours on the sofa.

However did have a lovely time, food wasnt all that but the company was.

More office work planned today, must also make a loaf of bread and the sausagement stuffing balls and freeze them for Christmas. Thats about all the OS I will manage. Am off to the hairdressers again tonight and OH is cooking again. He doesnt mind though.

Have a great day & speedy recovery to all those suffering with the cold.

    Morning all,

Just watching the children singing on gmtv, brings a lump to my throat :o bless them.
I am off to w**k today, three days left before I finish for xmas :T , dd has woken with the lurgy, but is insisting on going to school. She said she will ring me if necessary, I do hope she is ok.

WM just finished, DW will finish later BM on timer & will be ready when I get in from work. I babysat til 10:30, both the DGK stayed asleep, so I sorted some washing out for DD & then did some knitting. I then nattered to DD til 11:30, still I was home & in bed just after 12. Got up at 5:30, made packups, took hubby to the station & got tea out of the freezer, we're having Slumpie for tea tonight, from the Nanny Ogg cookbook. I need to see if they need hubby at work tomorrow as BIL doesn't need him until Friday.
I've blotted my copybook with the new head, I'm not going to get all the work done before we break up, not really much I can do about it, it's a combination of people not getting work to me on time & the speed the copiers work at, still, I make a convenient scapegoat.
I've started knitting scarves for next year, I got some fantastic bargains on reduced wool & fantastic service, ordered it Sunday evening & delivered yesterday, not sure if I'm allowed to give them a plug, so pm me or check out my blog if you want to know where from.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    O come, all ye faithful,
    Joyful and triumphant,
    O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
    Come and behold him,
    Born the King of angels;
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O Come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

In my calendar - a bear in a basket again. I seem to have lots of repeats :D :santa2:

I did well with the shopping yesterday - I had free Boots vouchers from Pigsback, so six gifts ended up actually costing me £4.94 :j I showed mr tru the gardening diary I'd bought, then gave it to him to wrap up for me for Christmas :rotfl:
Woolworth's looked like a giant jumble sale :D

I'm going to wash up in a mo, then put some clothes in the sink to soak. Then it's off to FIL's for a couple of hours. Home for lunch, more handwashing, some breadmaking, clean out the animals, then have a look at the Movies24 channel - they're showing a lot of made-for-tv Christmas films and I watch them all :D

    Morning All,

Had a very NON-OS day yesterday as have been to the dentist. It seems that my relapse (bulimia) last year has caused all manner of damage to my poor teeth and I need a total of 16 fillings replaced  Talk about expensive!!!!

On a positive note I received the job application I was talking about so am going to update my CV today and return it all with fingers and toes firmly crossed.

Is DD2's leavers party today from her preschool as she is off to "big school" in Jan. I was a very proud mummy as when I had her leavers progress report with her key worker yesterday I was told she has been hitting targets set for 6 year olds-she only turned 4 on Sept 1st!!! I havent told DH that yet, must remember to do so when he wakes up-lazy sod.

Right, off to pack lunch boxes and then shower and scrub teeth in preperation for the first 2 fillings which are being done at 9am.
