We were recently looking into buying a repossessed house. I felt absolutely terrible that some poor family has lost their home and I could benefit from it. I know I'm lucky not to be in a position where I might lose my home, but who knows what will happen in the future and what those people are going through must be really bad. But I also know that despite having an ok joint income and despite having saved thousands and thousands in recent years, we would have struggled to be able to afford to upgrade from our tiny terrace to a decent sized family home at previous prices.

What I also know is my neighbours have been repossessed recently. They bought 4 years before we did and paid 40% of what we paid for our house. We bought when we were students but we never missed a payment and overpaid by everything we could to make sure we were ok should things start going badly. Both of our neighbours worked full time and I feel awfully sorry for them but we managed to make our repayments and so should they. That house is now on the market at over twice what my neighbours paid but it's a reasonable not too overinflated price (in my opinion) and I'm happy that someone else will now have the opportunity to buy their first house at a fair price.

That made me giggle out loud (-:

  • Why do you deny this the way you act?
Why can you not see that this is the way that many on MSE view you?
Do you not mind being viewed in this way?

    1. Because I don't.

    2. I've not taken any poll, neither have you

Gawd knows which camp I belong to as I have no wish to own a home with a mortgage (and I don't have a pot of pee in so not saving for a deposit/full purchase price) but I also realised that house prices were going way beyond what was affordable to many to get on the ladder without taking out huge mortgages with lots of risk attached.

On the other hand - with house prices crashing, my inheritance is getting smaller by the day.

I do have a lot of empathy and sympathy for those getting reposessed, been there, done that and got the T shirt (and the ruined credit rating into the process) but prices were unsustainable.

Half vulture, half swan maybe? Or maybe I should say fluffy bunny :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

  • Heard all that before. Until I found out that most posters on this board are actually greedy BTLers looking for their next purchase or people who are extremely rich looking to buy their next £1million property.

So tell me how many properties do you own?

I've not noticed that most posters on the board are BTLers or after their next £1 million pad.

    I'm not, anyway.

I've noticed in this thread some anger creeping in, it's quite obvious who they are so I won't name them, all I can say is this, if you or any member of your family is about to get repossessed I do feel sorry for you, it is a terrible situation to find yourselves in.

However if you're just angry because your asset is losing a bit of paper money, get over it, stop being selfish and materialistic, what did you think?, that fantasy HPI would last forever ?, nothing lasts forever.
