Why is someone who rents a "loser" exactly?

Don't waste your time NDG, they cry now but when property was going through the roof they never came on here feeling sorry for people who could never buy.

To the OP, affordable house are good for everyone in the long run, HPI benefits very few. Case closed.

I feel absolutely no sympathy for people trapped in negative equity. As someone has already pointed out, noone forces them to borrow so highly and spend so much to the point that they put themselves in jeopardy when market realities hit in.

It is a freemarket. The OP seems to be suggesting government should step in and protect people from their own greed and stupidity. Smacks of socialism to me.

Proud vulture here, looking at baby vultures and thinking:'Perhaps they will be able to buy before their 40s, after all.'

I don't agree. A fair amount of people on here would help. A very few might say "enjoy your trip?" and walk on laughing, or equally not bother to pee in your ear if your brain was on fire.

But if you want to generalise I would say - bears and bulls alike - are a pretty decent lot on here. Er.. I probably fall (geddit!) into the non helping category.

All this post is... is someone wishing to blame for their problems.Whats happened was simply a wealth distribution from the young(too young or went to uni) to the old (bought early). Someone would get a house for 50k... then somenoe would have to pay 150k for it 7 years later. Now we are having a wealth redistribution from old to young... whereby if you aint bought the 150k house now is starting to come back down to 50k.When people buy a house they should be aware if they factor in repayment of mortgage... if they werent financially savvy enough to realise if it was affordable then thats a harsh lesson learned... but a fair one.In life, it is survival of the fittest... survivial of those that are clever and can provide and support their family. This is just darwinism for the modern day man thats all.Yes some people got conned into it, but a great deal didnt do their research first... and now will pay for it. A great deal used their house as a 2nd income to afford luxuries they couldnt usually get... they will pay for it now... which is fair. All in all this house price drop is fair, because the younger generation will be allowed the same benefits as you guys had when buying a house.Nobody forced people to buy an overpriced house, nor MEW money out of it.Maybe we should start a 'im a vulture club'?

I was more shocked of the laughing and rubbing of hands when house prices were on the way up.

Well, I am/was shocked at both these attitudes!

I think you will find thats the same behaviour from the same type of people :P... Just those biased on one side of the fence most times.
  • I dont blame people who hate BTLers , or are envious about those who bought 10 years ago, but what is sad is way some people seem to have a "Doom-gasm" about bad news, its almost like bad economic news has become a type of pornography to them, and posting on here about it is like a virtual mutual economic masturbation session.

    all very odd imo

Because they are not stupid people. Why do i say this you ask?Because in consumerism society such as ours... for someone to get better someone needs to get worse off. Most don't want people to get worse off and lose homes etc, but for our situation to improve theirs need to get worse. The tables turned as previously for the past 5 years it was the opposite whereby, we (people who didnt couldnt buy a house) got worse off as they (people with a house) got richer for doing nothing. Its not that we are glee or orgasming off bad news thinking about the poor !!!!!!s who will lose their houses....its more that they are one step closer to realising their desperate dream of owning a house... at an affordable level. It is selfish you may say... but i dont think so really.. to want to get a house for similar value someone paid 6-7 years ago taking into account inflation is not selfish...its fair
  • High house prices, and rapid HPI, are a social evil, in my view. HPI tends to transfer wealth from younger generations to older ones, and it drastically lowers everyone's standards of living as they pay through the nose for a roof over their heads.

HPI was insane over the last few years. It was obvious that house prices had soared out of control, and that was bad both for people who were priced out of the market and also people who had over-extended themselves to buy into the bubble.

I don't think it's a good thing for people to be repossessed. What alternative is there?

Lower house prices are, in general, a Good Thing.

Nobody is saying that HPI is a good thing. The OP was just saying that many of the posters on this board act like greedy vultures. Since I've said much the same thing myself in the past I obviously agree with their view. Why do you deny this the way you act? Why can you not see that this is the way that many on MSE view you? Do you not mind being viewed in this way?
