I have noticed more of the "fluffy kitten" brigade seem to have migrated over here since the board went national, and they seem to be against what I see as healthy debate
Yesh, Yeah, blah blah as long as the healthy debate is of the heartless, cruel, variety....0 -
None I live in rented, you see when the gold rush kicked off I had a quick look around and decide i would be better off selling shovels than actually digging for the stuff my self.0

I am not a greedy vulture.
I am a starving vulture, who has been circling for years. I'm only 26, so I grew into adulthood with HPI. I am not an economist or particularly clever, but I knew from the age of about 18 that I did not want to owe anyone that huge amount money. So I've been circling, hungry, for years ....
And now, finally, I might find a carcass. And tell you what - I'm not going to sit back and let the hyenas have the carcass, because it's mine. I live a good life renting. I owe nothing to anything. I pay my own way, have never received benefits or this or that .... and soon I will have what I want - a home where I can paint the wall bright pink and have as many pets as I like (including fluffy kittens that I can hug all day). Not an investment that I will greedily watch increase in value .. but a home. For me & my family (of evil, nasty vultures).0 -

I don't agree. A fair amount of people on here would help. A very few might say "enjoy your trip?" and walk on laughing, or equally not bother to pee in your ear if your brain was on fire.
But if you want to generalise I would say - bears and bulls alike - are a pretty decent lot on here. Er.. I probably fall (geddit!) into the non helping category.
You know, you do help, humour always helps.
Anyway, as for helping other people, as someone 'hoping' for prices to fall and regreting the consequences for those who hoped they wouldn't I help people. In fact, I'v been in tears this morning at a lovely delivery from some neighbours who feel helped by me enough to give me a lovely Christmas giftWhich is funny because I have felt they were helping ME mor than I was helping them. Funny that, a mutuaklly benficial agreement where they get what they need, I get want I need and everybody's happy. Makes me think my way of looking at the world can't be so dreadful.

That's a bit of an unintelligent, almost playground response.
There are plenty of threads on here that discuss the economy/house prices at length, that are educational to those that read them, and that don't desend into what you would call heartless or cruel debate.0 -

None? Oh ...Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
What does 'out on the street' mean? That they will have to live in insecure rentals for a few years until they get back on their feet? Much as most people who chose not to buy, or couldn't afford to, have been doing.
If that's the case then I'm struggling to understand what the problem is. Are 'homeowners' somehow better than, or otherwise different, from other people in society? Are they allergic to renting? All being equal, most people would not choose to live in a house or flat where they can be turfed out at a couple of months notice, it's not great, but it's life for many. Why are homeowners different?
Personally I've lived in rented properties, with my children, for years, because houses were too expensive, yes I could have taken on the ridiculous 6x mortgage I was offered, but common sense prevailed. If prices come down I'll be able to buy and still feed us.
I'm not gloating, I feel heartily sorry for anyone who has to deal with being reposessed, but you make your choice in this life and deal with the consequences. I've chosen to live with the evils of private rentals for a few years, others have had some 'secure' years in their own home, and some of us may be about to swap places. People who bought sensibly and prudently will mostly be OK.
I still don't think people who bought at stupid mortgage multiples are any better than me and my children, or any of the other people who've been renting for years. I'd love to know if they are though.
....my child, when there were only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.0
