I have nothing to thank conor for!, I have always used the HC unlike conor as you will see form some of his posts, who must have his own personal version made up especially for him, an example that can be seen with his interpretation of solid white lines.

    Road markings are road signs...

Perhaps you should go ask someone with a clue.

So when I turn to the right and the trailer headboard moves out to the left in respect to the vehicle, how does a correctly adjusted mirror allow me to see past that?

You really don't have even the faintest idea and obviously not the intelligence to work that out.

Abusive again Conor, you must have attended a rather peculiar school, or are there other issues in your life which deny you the ability to communicate without resorting to sarcasm or abuse.

Imagine for just one moment this scenario you describe, you are turning right, and the trailer headboard moves left, actually it doesn't as you already know, it describes a different and decreasing circle than your tractor unit at that time, but its still turning right with you, so it really doesn't matter whats there at that time as the front of the trailer is moving away from it.

This is assuming that you have allowed for the swing of the rear overhang of the back of the trailer nearside.

Of course if you ever drive an articulated car transporter with peak, you will learn what the trailer ''appearing'' to go away from you really means.

Its not going to happen though, as the EU is banning them, presumably the newer type of 'driver' isn't capable of driving them without taking out lamp posts/traffic lights/bedroom windows/bus top decks etc.
Best leave that sort of thing to the old hands eh?

What on earth this has to do with normal open main road scene where some modern drivers seem convinced through their own ignorance that their vehicles have a blind spot amazes me.
If you ever get to the position you describe on a main road where you have lost sight of the side you are turning away from (as explained above), you will be moving away from the potential victim anyway, if you are closing on him, then you will be turning towards him, and even the most appalling truck driver should be able to see along the inside of their turning vehicle.

If you should feel the need to hurl some more abuse at someone feel free, its mildly amusing and obviously your only form of communication.

You are a shining example of why HGV drivers have been so vilified (bad mouthed in simple terms you may feel more comfortable with) over the years.

Do you think with a little effort you could come up with a constructive polite and sensible argument at some point, i look forward to the next illuminating post from you.

I never mentioned road markings/signs in that or any other post , I was pointing out your wrong, (in your personal version of the HC), interpretation of solid white line markings! To which you will not concede!

However you are also wrong about signs and road markings, they are not the same but different, and if the same then why does the official Direct.gov.uk site list them separately by showing SIGNS and ROAD MARKINGS ?

    That won't be you then!

yip,my dad drives a transporter and knows all too well the trouble the overhang causes on narrow street junctions.
didnt realise they were being done away with, that means one less car on a load then i guess?

I'm not sure of the date, but very soon all the peaks will have gone (artics only, and most of them already have) the much more common lorry and drag with the peak fixed over the truck cab continue, but i hear that some more regs are due which will make the usual car transporter cut down cabs obsolete, (something to do with being able to stand up in a sleeper cab) that will not necessarily negate the car over the cab, but an increased cab height may well make it very difficult to tilt that car sufficiently to enable a full load on the truck, making the whole vehicle much less versatile, and as you say will cut the carrying capacity (just another example of our leaders shooting us in the foot, being unable to say no to their paymasters in Brussels, couldn't risk their own glossy future's)

Maybe some of the companies will increase their trunking operations and return to day cabs to enable full loading of the trucks to continue, who knows?

I probably know your dad then by sight at least, been doing the cars for far too long, pass on my regards to a fellow car carrier, we are probably one the last parts of the transport game that acknowledges each other with mutual respect.
That quaint practice has all but vanished in the transport game, and with the passing of time, old school courtesy is slowly disappearing from the car transporter side too.

Your dad will already have told you how precarious our jobs are now, with the unprecedented downturn in vehicle sales, whether we can hang on we'll just have to hope, my own company has halved its workforce, and others are cutting back drastically.

It'll be interesting to see how the industry changes as this recession starts to get worse next year.

Now, I'm not a professional driver but I always thought that "mirror, signal, manoevre" meant that you were supposed to use the mirrors BEFORE you started turning. The headboard doesn't move before the steering wheel is turned does it? So you'd see the other vehicles before you turned and would have made sure that there were no vehicles in the way of the manouver you were going to attempt?

he probably does know or at least have had some kind of industrial word or 2 with you.
his company are giving them 1 week per month stand down with pay. ( you will probably know who they are) to try and save some jobs and work.
just been taken over by a major car manufacturer who also face uncertain times.

even in my trade the guys from all companies would offer a flash of lights or at least a wave, but the common courtesy of a fellow doing the same job as you is rapidly disappearing, such a shame.
