Fast lane, slow lane! no such thing, all lanes on motorways have a national speed limit of 70mph, (not inc HGVs coaches etc)! All vehicles should be traveling in the inside lane unless overtaking, then they should use one of the "overtaking lanes".
And I ask again, where is this "lorries are limited to 56mph"? the speed limit for an HGV on motorways is 60mph! I have had lorries tailgating me when my speedo is reading 70-80mph, so they are not all limited,(nor foreign).Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

Another pedant on the forum that plays on peoples terminology.
Fast lane, third lane, outside lane?
I know what they mean.
I don't understand where you are coming from tho'I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Reading this just reinforces to me my decision to avoid motorways.0

I suspect there's more lorry drivers like that around than people think....0 -
easy to get a few mph extra, get your tacho calibrated by someone who knows how to set it bang on the upper tolerance, and fit a set of very bald tyres at the calibration, then change them. Worth an extra 6mph.0

Incidentally, talking about get up close and friendly with hgv's, there is at present an 8 mile section of the MI in Notts thats being widened from 3 to 4 lanes. It has been down to a 50mph speed limit, averaging cameras etc, fo over a year and will be for at least another year.
There are 2 x 10ft wide lanes and the outer lane is only 8ft
It is choco with mixed traffic every morning and night and extremely frightening at times. You have the choice of going for the 3rd, narrow lane which excludes hgv's but puts you so close to them that you regularly have to drive on the rumble strip, or you go for one of the inner lanes and become the meat in a tightly packed hgv sandwich. NOT ENJOYABLE. The gap between traffic is non existant at times:eek:
This is such a horrible bit to drive! Especially at night - very frightening.0 -
All HGV's over 7.5 Tonnes have the road speed limiter set to 4 mph below the maximum HGV motorway limit of 60 mph. This is a legal requirement and when vehicles exceed this limit it is an indicator that the speed limiter is either faulty or has been tampered with. There will be times when the 56mph limit is exceeded such as travelling down hill.
If it is a "legal requirement" why is the official speed limit for a HGV 60mph and why do I get tailgated by some when doing 70mph?Based on my experience as a Class 1 HGV driver for 12 years, they are usually Irish,Scottish,Dutch or Italian.
Most of the ones I get tailgating are not foreign!cyclonebri1 wrote: »Another pedant on the forum that plays on peoples terminology.

Pedantic or not,use the right terminology, this is why people use the outside lane, (and stay in it), as they think that they can "go faster" in that lane!Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Lets get back to basics.
The lorry changed lanes and hit another vehicle. No if's but's or maybe's. No denial. He didnt see it. It's driving without due care and attention as much as we hate to admit it.
Do lorries not have mirrors above the passenger window to see down to the road to help reduce the blindspot?
I sympathise to the fact that your hubby genuinely has not seen the car due to the blind spot, but a court could impose more points and a larger fine as the offence HAS been commited. A not guilty plea could be seen as wasting the courts time if it's a cut and dry guilty.
At least no-one was hurt.
