Got one from Staples today (Friday) for £99.99.

After a couple of local Somerfield calls I got the general idea they're gone. The last of the Lancashire garmin i3s went to the Fleetwood store apparently and the manager said he's got a list of 50 customers wanting one.

Phoned my Lancaster Halfords to see how far they took price matching. They phoned Garstang and Fleetwood stores to find out they were out of stock. Then phoned my nearest Staples in Preston who did the same. However I convinced them that they were in stock and that they should phone another local somerfield store to check. Manager just said it was OK and the 99.99 price is acceptable.

Made the trip with a friend who brought his Tom Tom 300 so I could compare. Bearing in mind he paid £300 for his he was quite gutted. As far as I can see apart from the non touch screen and the obviously smaller screen it does the same job. I3 is a lot smaller than I thought it would be but the screen is still an acceptable size to view when driving.

    Glad I made the purchase.

Also this Mio 268(£169) but you'll need to pay for POI warner(£20) to add speed camera warnings and also need to contact MIO to get an update DVD to Version 2 with better software and more upto date maps.

  • Any garmin available in Cardiff area????
  • A quick question to you Garmin techies - if you load the POIs after you've loaded the speed camera database, does it erase the speed camera db?

The reason I ask is because I did it in this order and I can't access the speed camera db after loading the POIs.

Or am I looking in the wrong place? (I'm looking in Where To? / Food, Hotels and More / Custom Points)

    TIA

    Hopeless

  • Hi I know the Garmin is getting really scarce now and Im sure there is none left in London where Im living but as I travel quite a bit can somebody please tell me what cities still have them in stock.

    Many Thanks
  • David - you're far too late for the Somerfields ones. In my area, all the small stores were told to send any remaining stock to one large store, where they've all sold through. I can't picture it being any different anywhere else.

Staples had them on special offer last week for 119.99 - but I have a sneaking feeling that promotion ended last Thursday.

My local Woolies had a few quid off it last week - maybe yours will too. It's easily worth the £150 it's slowly coming down to in many places - I know it's not as good as 99.99 but you will buy it and love it.

And as for the other issue above, you have to put the speed camera files and the POI files all in one folder on your PC, then the POI uploader will load them all in one go. Each time you run the POI loader, whatever you add will supercede what was on there before...

Oh - and a handy thing - https://www.streetmap.co.uk will tell you the lat and long of any UK place if you want to create your own POI files...
