You want to go Garmin website, find the I3 web page and download "web updater". It will allow you to plug your Garmin in via USB, check what version of software your garmin has and update it automatically.

This is not related to updating your map data though. See the thread I post on free upgrade for v7 users in this forum. The "software" is just improving the functionality of your I3, the latest version is 2.7 ... most in the shop have version v2.5 preinstalled.

As I unpacked my Garmin I3 I thought it looked like it had already been opened....I came to put in my home address only to find there has already been one put in ! (not mine)

Do you think I should take it back and get a new one ?

By the Garmin website do you mean ?

Can we Garmin owners not download the maps and install them ourselves from the Garmin website?

Would be a lot simpler than sending off our memory cards with a good chance that Royal Mail would lose them!!!

  • Hi,

Anyone know if the Staples £119 offer ended today? I'm really hoping it didn't, but can imagine it ending at the end of the month.

Twenty minutes too late to call them, so if anyone could put me out of my misery, many thanks.

Also, can you charge the unit through the USB or is the cable just for downloading/updating etc?

    TIA

You can check if they are loaded by going to:

    Where to?
    Food/Hotels and more
    Custom Points

If they are loaded you will see a list of pocketgps_uk_gatso files.

If you mean the Garmin i3 mate, you don't recharge it FULL STOP!

It takes batteries or runs off the cigarette lighter power but there is NO recharge circuit built in so you cannot recharge the batteries in the unit!!!

  • Sorry, Jedi. Unless you've contributed to the speed camera database in the past, you now have to pay to subscribe on pocket gps. As far as I know, there's no other place that has the database for free. I could be wrong, though.

EDIT: Just found a way in which you can get lifetime membership:

] Your active subscription will be extended free for life if you report just one previously unreported, deleted or altered static speed camera position. (Must consequently be verified by PocketGPSWorld.com.) We monitor all submissions very carefully and you will be notified if we use your submission. If you are successful we will let you know and automatically extend your current membership. You must be a current member and your account must be active to benefit from this offer.

If you pay your £2, then submit a never before reported camera, they'll give you life membership. I guess if you want it for free, you have to contribute now.
