Just a few comments about software changes on the PDA Navigator 5 v TomTom 5:-

If you don't need the speed camera database I would stick with Medion Navigator 5; there is not much in it and although I only used it for a day I thought it was marginally better than the TomTom 5 software. However, I wanted the speed cameras.

To get the speed cameras on Navigator you need to upgrade to 5.1 which for some reason Medion are making it tricky to get in the UK. I assume this is a monetary isssue!!

Neither Tomtom 5 nor Navigator 5 are compatible with 7 digit postcodes which can be a bit of a pain especially in the countryside.

I have now been corrected on this last point and have now enabled TomTom 5 for 7 digit postcodes please see Iainkirk's post below for necessary instructions. Many thanks Iain.

But all in all this PDA (micromaxx) is an excellent piece of kit.

TomTom 5 does use 7 digit postcodes. It just doesn't automatically work on some PocketPCs for some reason, as they install the postcode database file in the wrong folder and TomTom can't see it.

You need to follow the instructions to fix it. See here:

    http://www.tomtom.com/support/category.php?ID=3&Language=1&FID=3237

Once you've moved the file, full 7 digit post code search works perfectly.

I didn't like Medion Navigator. It appears to run rather slowly. Maybe it's just because I've been using TomTom for 3 years!

    Hi Deanos

I'm one step ahead of you here for a change...lol

Just make a file called "ZIP" and insert the british postal file then copy it onto your SD card. Then follow the instructions given in Iain's post.

Just wanted to point out that a free speed camera alert program is available which is compatible with the Medion Navigator 5.0 (well all programs really). I used it succsessfully today. Non-trivial to set up but very easy to update/maintain after the 1/2 hour initial setup. It has been mentioned a couple of times on the parallel discussion for the ppc on this site :

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=137520

    its called POIObserver.

A guide on pocketgps.com was shown as being here :

    Hope this helps.
