Go to the Garmin Streetpilot forum and there you'll find answers to all your questions on how to change the POI alerts.
Thanks for the advice - will check it out.0 -

Mine makes an alert noise when im quite far away from the camera and it always gives an alert when im going over the speed limit which is annoying because it thinks the speed limit is 30 when it is actually 40 for sometime before. Do you know how to stop if from making a noise when you are over?
Ideally, i just want it to make the alert noise when im fairly close to a camera and thats it. Any ideas if its possible?
Well, I know that I did it using the manual settings on POI Loader from Garmin web site, by saying that the LPG POI data files contained proximity data and then stating the distance required for alarm ... But it didn't work! Called Garmin, but they didn't know why?
As far as the Speed Camera stuff, again I manually changed the warning distance in the POI Loader program for each type of camera, and set proximity as opposed to speed warnings ... BUT, it shows both speed and distance alerts when you actually look at the POI information on the i3 unit, and the distance is completely wrong (compared to what I set it to).
Another MSE user has recommended to check out the forum on pocketgpsworld for information, so I'll give it a whirl.

My mum bought me the Micromaxx version in Somerfield's Whitby & posted it down to me last week, but then a few days later she fancied one herself & went back to get one ...they still had some in stock yesterday (even after she bought hers).0

In the Swindon Kwik-Save, they still have the Garmin's, but no PDA's I'm afraid.
Cheers,
