    Hey all,

Sorry if this has been posted before but the thread has gotten so big! Anyone with the i3, you can get some cool POI's from this web site http://www.maft.co.uk/garmin/

From Tesco's or ASDA's to paintballing!

Got the 150 Pocket PC today . Have installed my TOMTOM Navigator 5 as well as all speed cameras and everything else I could find. Even got the star voices add on for it, nothing better than Yoda telling you when to turn. This works like a dream and TOMTOM 5 has no issues with it at all unlike some other PDA's. Thanks to caverncity for the info about this.

The PDA version is a fully fledged windows mobile 2003 pocket pc - MP3 - video etc. etc. and is well worth the money in my opinion - I had 8 sat lock in my front room last night - 10 sat lock in car on way to work and it works perfectley thru the windscreen of my picasso - where other gPS units have failed (other more expensive ones I might add!) BUT the navigon software is PANTS! I stuck an old version of tomtom (3) on it - this is MUCH faster and easier to use!

The Somerfield manager told me that it would work indoors, but I didn't think that would be possible - were you in the middle of the room or by a window?

Wonder if anyone can help .... my Micromax PDA works fine with TomTom5 except the signial strength for the GPS aerial is not displayed. It has had to be configured to use the GPS aerial on COM2 (and not Com1) Despite the M utility settings showing the GPS aeriel is on Com1 - has anyone had similar experiences? or any solutions to this issue?

    Thanks

  • italiastar - I was in middle of downstairs room watching TV!!!
I got a better signal upstairs - and even better by a window! However - won't really be doing much navigating here! lol!!!

looks like tom tom is the way to go - does anyone know the best place to get and and the price - I also would like French and Italian maps.

Before anyone wonders - I've managed to get a Garmin and PDA - It's a long story ................... Basically I bought a Garmin on Saturday, but it was one that had been returned and had some bits from the speed camera detector, missing packaging and instructions and had obviously been used. When I returned it they had just sold the last one five minutes earlier - shame they didn't give it to me the day before. On the managers recommendation I bought the pda, but still liked the garmin. Today, I went past an ex Safeway, ex Morrison which was now a Somerfield - I went in a saw that they had one Garmin so I bought that - as people have said - it's worth looking and ask them to scan it - the assistant insisted that it was £149.

So here I am. Which one is better as one will have to go back. Whilst I could play with them - I don't really want to if one is going back. Ideally I'd like something that I can use on my once a year travel to Italy through France which can find my Chambres d'hote. I like the idea of the Garmin as it's small simple to use and can go between my rear mirror and windowblind. The pda also looks impressive. I appreciate that no one can make my mind up, but any advice would be appreciated, so that I can return one for someone else to enjoy.

    Italiastar,

The i3 doesn't currently have support for any minor roads outside of the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Garmin have stated that they will sell seperate cards for other countries shortly.

    Hope this helps.

PDA all the way...you can decide what mapping software you want, you can install games, etc, use it a calender/diary, get a tidy sized memory card and you can rip dvd's to watch on it. The Garmin is just a penknife...a PDA is a swiss army knife..it has a multitude of functions other than just being used as a route finder...get a wireless card for it (ok they cost) but then it means you can use it to get on the internet at wireless hotspots, download your pictures to it...mini photo album in the palm of your hand...write your letters on pocket word (ok a bit difficult using the pda but easy with a pda keyboard) then sync with your computer when you get home/work...If you travel the Garmin will get you there, but thats it...with a PDA and a little knowlege of what it can do you can get to your destination and then entertain yourself by playing films, games, accessing internet, writing letter, etc...the choice is yours..as it was mine..I decided on a PDA which gace me the additional functions....I just wish an offer like this had been around when I purchased my iPaq :(
    Welcome, rogerramjet.
