Money Moral Dilemma: Would you pay a parking back hander?

Absolutely, Yes I would give him the fiver.
This is immoral, but none the less taking advantage of such things keeps us small guys going.0 -
Of course I would provided I gave him the money at the barrier as he opened it.
The way I see it is that the employee of the carpark has offered me a discount, presumable to encourage me to become a regular customer, if he pockets the cash that's his problem not mine.0 -
Personally I would go in on my bike and park for nowt, but for the purposes of this conundrum:
The argument that I would be defrauding the car park company is made null and void by the blatant fact that they are profiteering off me by charging astronomical prices, so yes, I would slip the attendant a fiver, and a merry Xmas to him!0 -
Nope.
Not worth the risk and it is not my job to line the pockets of some local thief.0 -
This is the slippery slope that will take us all down to third world standards of living.
We already have quite enough morally dubious scenarios linked to the infernal combustion engine.
If you cannot afford the charges use your push bike - probably quicker and healthier.0 -
Leave a camera on the dashboard, start it recording and ask him to clarify his offer. Then let him know you want £50 or you grass him up to his boss.0

"Hang on a second mate - just gonna reach over here to my discreet recording equipment I always have installed in case of this scenario..." lol
I'm sorry - but to ALL the people that say it's wrong, it's fraud, blah blah blah...
I just don't believe ANY of you would do that in real life. It's all very well to sit and post on a forum that you have untouchable morals - but in practice - if that really happened...?
'No, no. I am NOT paying you a fiver you scoundrel! I want to pay FOURTEEN POUNDS and I'll see you lose your job also!" Fnar fnar!
Nah. It's never going to happen. Slate me if you will. I don't care. You know I'm right. And I know you know I'm right - and so on.
PLUS, as people have already stated - he works there. He's offering you a discount. Who's to say you're doing anything wrong? If you buy a sandwich in Tesco and the cashier notices it's out of date today and thus sticks a hefty discount on there (as I've seen them do often in petrol stations) it's just good relations. You certainly didn't see me argue - 'no, no - I want to pay the full RRP!' Fnar.

No I would not as I would not be doing the attendant any favours. If his company found out he had been doing this he would be sacked and would end up worse off. Most car parks these days have CCTV so the guy would have a good chance of getting caught. And he would probably be dismissed for gross misconduct which would mean he would automatically be suspended from benefit. So you save £9.00 and the guy losses his job - does this make you feel good ????0
