    Morning all :)

Not feeling wonderful this morning, I have a bit of a sniffle and a sore throat which isn't good. Ended up volunteering to make the place settings for ex-bosses Christmas dinner last week, which took far longer than I anticipated, given that there are 65 people going. I even took a walk up to the resturant to check their colour scheme as it's a fancy resturant and I didn't want them to clash with their decor. In the end I made 65 silver pyramids, tied them at the top with fluffy white wool and stuck snowflakes with the names on the front. They are a little bit abstract, but I hope they will be okay and the organiser likes them, so all good so far. Didn't get much sleep last night due to trying to finish them off and worrying about something I found broken at work on Sunday - I know it was fine after I'd used it on Friday (and I have a witness who watched me clean it and put it back intact) so I have no idea what happened. Seems also like someone has reversed over OHs bike as well, snapping the front brake lever. I'm not quite sure how to repair it. In both instances, I just don't understand why people don't admit to things rather than leave them lying there for somebody else to fix.

Had a Christmas dinner last week which I was looking forward to, but in the end didn't enjoy very much, I got the time wrong so was late to the resturant and most people had had quite a bit to drink before they got there, so I felt slightly uncomfortable. Ah well. I just feel sorry for the staff and the resturant. Food was very good though.

I plan to go home early today and hibernate as I'm just report writing this afternoon :) I'm actually up to date with the laundry and the housework is almost done (other than hoovering up the silver glitter from the floor). Chicken noodle soup with random veg for tea, as I'm trying to use up the stuff in the fridge before we go away for Christmas.

Am supposed to be making Christmas cakes, but I don't want to when I'm not well. Saying that, does anybody have any idea where I can buy charms to put in Christmas pudding? I want to make one to take out to Germany and want it to be really traditonal.

Hope you all have a good day and hugs to those that need them, cel x

Thriftlady hope all goes well with your ds and that dd is better soon

I hope all the cold/flu bugs go away soon. My 4 year old son also has man flu and has been stuck to the sofa for the best part of 5 days now. Sadly, unlike N9eav, the cough and snot are still with us. He did rally briefly at 10.00am when we made a small batch of cornflake cakes. He is now back on his sofa working his way through them. His temp was 39.9 when we got up at 4am this morning, but is down to 37.2 at the moment. I just wish it would stay down, and we could both get a good nights sleep.

I think the cornflake cakes are likely to be my only OS today as I'm shattered (I do have cheese sandwiches in the fridge too that were supposed to be my work lunch). Take care all of you.

Pippa - you must be glad that your visitor has gone. Not the best of guests to have, by the sound of it!

Thriftlady - hopefully the op is over now and your DS is recovering. From what you've said, it'll make such a difference to him that all the anxiety will be worth it.

Well, I've done quite a bit of wrapping up and watched a bit of TV at the same time, so it's been quite a nice couple of hours. I shall carry on until lunchtime and then do some more this afternoon.

Jackie0 and everyone else with the lurgy - take care of yourselves and get better soon. Hopefully, you'll all be fine for Christmas.

RedRuby - glad it's over for you!

    Well, back to the pressies.

  • Good morning :hello:

thriftlady, I'm sure your DS will be fine :) He'll be back home before you know it.

I've got a nasty throat infection which has stolen my singing voice  - fortunately I don't need to sing between now and next Sunday when we have our church carol service, so it had better come back before that!

I managed to get all my bargain "happy chickens" into the freezer yesterday by jointing them all _pale_ - it took ages cos I just couldn't seem to get my kitchen knife sharp enough  I skinned them and bagged them up in batches of fillets (v. versatile), bone-in pieces (perfect for trying some of the curries in my Madhur Jaffrey book), and one big bag of bones and assorted bits, to be used for stock. Managed to rip my hands to shreds in the process (and having to wash them every five minutes didn't do them much good either) but it will be totally worth it. I must have got six or seven kilos of chicken for £8.75.

This evening I need to write my Christmas cards. I am pretty much finished on buying presents - just need to buy for my mum's dog (Aldi have doggy treats in this week) as it's such a pleasure to watch her opening her pressies :D And as we are visiting my sister on Boxing Day, I really should get a box of chocs for her OH as well.

My brother has persuaded my dad to take the two of us out for dinner on Wednesday evening, he tried to get a table at Belgo but they were fully booked so he's going to try the Lowlander on Drury Lane. Mmmmm, Belgian
beer and moules frites, yummy! This has become an annual event and enables us to exchange Christmas presents as we don't all spend Christmas Day together. Bro is off to Ireland later this week to spend Christmas with his GF's family, and as for Dad, well I need to probe him on his plans for Christmas Day as Mum suggested we ask him if he would like to join us (which would solve a few logistical/transport problems too). I'm so lucky that my divorced parents get along so well (far better than they did for most of their marriage )
    Leaving with a final thought~

Celyn - don't know about traditional charms, but somewhere like H Samuel prob does cheap silver charms for bracelets that would be okay and fairly safe?

Right really must get on now, procrastination is awful! Will have to leave dd1 in charge if the boilerman arrives, I must get some money, best check I have id, even though they know me in the bank, I know I'll need some!

  • Well, the idea was to make boston baked beans from the recipe in St Delia's frugal food. Except by the time that little bear had finished needing cuddles from mum I didn't quite have time to get it on for it to be ready when dear heart will be home. Sigh. So I am going to continue to soak the beans then keep them in the fridge and then, I hope, get them in nice and early tomorrow.

Yesterday we had a stew which was lovely, and has at least another meal left to freeze and I also did a slow cooker full of bacon cooked up with barley and dried peas and onion, which I also plan to freeze. Also I have the breadmaker on for brown bread.

Little bear is a very relaxed, tired little bear for some reason. I suspect another cold as he is just lounging around in between bouts of mischief. It is four days since play group so I suppose he is due his sniffle, and I suspect one is starting.

Today is cleaning day (actually, doing stuff as and when I feel like it) with turkey steaks (which I treated us to) and home made wedges with carrots for tea. I may warm up a tin of condensed mushroom soup to have as a sauce.

Evil cat is still at the early stages of kidney disease. She went to the vet yesterday, who withstood the experience very well according to dear heart. We have been given special food for her, and she is only supposed to have 40g per day. But she begs I don't know how I am going to go on. I will sneak her some extra - she has lost a little weight.

Actually dear heart said she was defying gravity. They held the cat basket upside down and evil cat still wouldn't come out.

Hugs to all, especially the poorlies. It does seem to be a poorly time of year, there seems to be more about than usual, or perhaps it is just me. The weather seems unusually cold.

The people at the back of us are fighting as I type. It is a little early for them, it must be all the Christmas spirit. Also, when I mean fighting, I mean hitting each other not just shouting. I don't know how they have any house left.

  • DS1 fine:j :j he's had his chin jabbed and has come round from the anaesthetic. He's really woozy though and refused to eat any toast because he wasn't supposed to eat until he'd had his anaesthetic -bless him, he can't remember anything after he was given a sedative. OH says he has eaten some toast now and had a drink. They've got to stay on the ward until 2pm then, all being well they can come home.

I think Dd will be fine to go to school tomorrow, she isn't pulling a fast one (it has been known) but she's not really really poorly IYKWIM.

Thanks for all your good wishes -you guys are the best:A
  • Hi all!

Gosh I am so tired today. Had a late night last night and then my home help replacement (mine is on holiday this week) turned up at 0930 - 90 mins early!! I was still in bed asleep so felt completly wrong footed. Anyway, she was very sweet and very efficient but I still feel like I left half my brain in bed..

Muppet - glad you enjoyed the smilie!
Thriftlady - Glad to hear your sons procedure went well
N9EAV, Hester and bargainbird - I hope you all feel better soon.

BM has just finished (can hear the beeping!) and I am planning smoked mackeral and mash for dinner with whatever veg is in the fridge. Hope that is enough OS 'cos I am too tired to function I think.

Have a couple more cards to make, but the cat keeps getting on the table and sitting right on top of whatever is in front of me, which holds up the proceedings somewhat, as if you try and move her, she gets all territorial and tries to bite! Then she sits and swishes her tail, giving you a 'I dare you!' look... I resorted to switching on my OHs laptop which he foolishly left on the end of the table and as soon as it warmed up, she went and sat on the keyboard and slept. :rotfl: Am not responsible for anything that may have opened on the desk top every time she shifts postion!!
Anyway, smileyhug.gifto everyone who needs them today, and getwell.gifto everyone who is under the weather.
