Hi all - I've just read the rest of yesterday's thread and wanted to send lots of (((hugs))) to Smoky - it must have been sad seeing Eric's car go but he wouldn't have wanted you to keep it. You did the right thing. I'm glad the vodka worked - I find it's great for getting lots of 'organic' stains and smells out.

Tittlemouse - I wouldn't say my DH 'cooks'! He asked for a Victoria sponge one day when I'd been making flapjacks and fairy cakes all morning, so I said 'you want one, you make one!'. He did but it was like teaching the boys when they were small! Still, he succeeded in making an excellent cake but, as he wants one every Sunday, it's now his job to make it! He makes a great omelette and a good fry-up but there his culinary skills end. His one and only attempt at spaghetti bolognaise, despite being left full instructions, was boiled spaghetti in one saucepan and boiled mince in another, with nothing else - not even any stock. It was disgusting and even he said 'I can't eat this c**p!'. I cook, he clears up and that's the way we like it!

Well, I've done all my housework (or as much as I intend to do today), prepped for dinner and put all the wrapping up stuff in the front room, where I intend to spend the rest of the day hopefully finishing off all the pressies. We have the tree up but it needs presents round it to make it look authentic!

    See you all later.

    Good morning!

Hester, Donny, N9eav - hope you are all better soon

Thriftlady - I'm sure your ds will be fine, at least he'll be fully recovered from the GA by Christmas. Shame about your meal, but hope dd feels better soon.

Hugs to all other poorlies and those in need x

Well today I have ds off with the sickness bug that is doing the rounds, the hospital has had to close wards because of it, so not a good one! dd1 is off with a dreadful cold and headache, she wanted to go in to school as she has an assessment today, but told her she couldn't - at least one of my children is eager to go to school!

OS today have done the packed lunches for dd2 and dd3, fed the animals, walked the hound and picked up assorted items from the floors, still need to hoover and swish and swipe the kitchen, and at some point unplug the dw and clean out the pipes as it isn't working and I think it's because it isn't draining properly, that'll be a lovely job! For the moment I'm going to have a surf and listen to Nella's War, which has been recommended by so many people, and is book of the week on Radio 4 at 9.45am, might even have a cuppa and really spoil myself lol! Also need to go to the bank today and get some money as new cards haven't yet arrived, and my car needs petrol!

Hope everyone has a good day and keeps warm xx

    Morning :santa2:
Quick post this morning I will be back later and post properly ;)
Just had brekkie porridge then fresh bread toasted. DW is doing its thing and WM will be working overtime later when our guest has gone!!!!!!!!
How can anyone make so much mess in just 2 weeks!!!!!!
BIL is moving out today :j :j :j its going to take me hours to sort the mess out in the bedroom and get rid of the smell, he is not the cleanest person in the world, I felt like shouting "putting clean clothes on does'nt make you clean" :mad:but must admit OH did tell him to have a shower.
Well MIL can have her little "darling" for a bit now, and perhaps she will realise he is not as easy to have in the house as she thinks he is....time will tell.....he is 49after all .............:oSorry rant over :o

  • Well, I'm a bit bored to be honest. Can't go anywhere because of DD being ill and I've no cooking to do because tea is already sorted. I've taken the opportunity to get a load of bread on the go.

OH has just rung to say DS is in theatre. He gets pretty stressed and hates swallowing pills and medicines so that freaked him out but once the sedative kicked in he was OK.

He is having an injection treatment to kill part of an abnormal vein in his chin. It is completely harmless but doesn't look pretty -looks like a greyish lump on his chin which has gradually got bigger and will continue to increase unless treated. Needless to say he gets a lot of stick from the other kids at school about it so he is anxious to be rid of it. OH tells me that after the treatment it will swell to twice its normal size for 10 days. I'm not sure he'll want to go to school with it like that so he might be off for the rest of the week. Still, he should have a new chin by the time term starts again:)

Thriftlady, are you feeling any better now that you know it's all started? It's always horrible when things happen to children, especially your own, you just want to take their place. I'm sure your ds will be happy when it's all finished, and he doesn't get any more comments.

Forgot to say earlier, doing roast chicken for dinner tonight, I forgot to take it out of the freezer in time for cooking for lunch yesterday! Anyway dd2 volunteered to do meal plans this week, and bless her, she has included a chicken curry for leftovers and made a little note about freezing stock and spare chicken! dd1 even got into it this time, and has gone through adding veg, salads, bread, rice, couscous, etc!

    Morning again :D

Back from the Dr, and I did try to lay back and relax :D , but its not nice is it ?, still hopefully thats it over for another 3 years.

Thriftlady, hopefully you will get a call soon to say its all done, lots of treats for him tonight x

I have two loads of washing blowing on the line, and another in the wm, and I have cleaned out all but one of the kitchen cupboards, off to do that one now, trouble is, having been on my hands and knees, I have now seen that the running board thing under the units is dirty, so will have to do that too  .

Minced beef and onion pie for tea tonight, with left over roasties from yesterday, and maybe a bit of mash and veg.

OH is going into ask for a payrise tonight, he has worked for my bil for 20 years, and is on a fairly low wage, so fingers crossed for him. If he is successfull we are going to try an put this house on the market in the new year and move nearer to dd's school, to a small pretty village, so fingers crossed.

Hugs to all the poorley ones, back to my cupboards now
  • Morning all, went to bed eventually early hours of this morning with a tickly throat and woke with a beautiful full-blown cold ,still at least it gets it out of the way before Christmas. My remedy is 2 paracetamols every four hours plus lots of hot drinks.Cheap as chips, and a fraction of the price of the 'cold remedies ' on the market. I shall keep in the warm today by the fire and probably do some knitting, and make a couple of birthday cards that are due just after Christmas.Have a couple of lamb chops from the freezer with veggies for dinner tonight and soup for lunch.
No grub to buy this week as I have so much still in my cupboards .I listed some of it yesterday and I seem to have 14 tins of chopped tomato's ??
This came about because of the 'automatic shopping' that I used to do.You know ,when you walk around the supermarket automatically tossing things into the trolley. Those days have stopped

Redruby - hope it's good news on the payrise front, finger's crossed!

Jackie - I've got 6 trays of tinned toms! I found them still priced at 23p a few weeks ago in our little Mr T's, so bulk bought! There are a lot of us though! Hope your cold feels better soon. I read somewhere in the paper last week that things like hot squash do you just as much good as all these special drinks, it was an article about "granny's remedies", I agree, I think it's the warmth that helps, and so much cheaper as well! But then I've just made dd1 gargle with salt water for her sore throat, always works for me! (Hope this doesn't consititute medical advice, sorry pen and pink if it does!)

Can anyone tell that I really don't want to get on with my chores lol! dd1 is up and making cards in the sitting room, so hoovering can wait till she's finished, and if I bung in the chicken now I can convince myself that I'll clean the kitchen properly whilst I'm doing the veg later! Problem is that I need to go out and so really do need to get moving, sigh!

True my late ma-in-law swore by boiled lemonade for a cough, and she lived to a good age .She also cleaned her teeth with salt and died at 84 in her own bed complete with all her 'marbles' and her teeth:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
My children used to think she had 'witchy powers' I always said she was the 'old wife' that all the tales were written about .but bringing up two boys as a young widow in the 1930s meant she couldn't afford to have a doctor, so a lot of local remedies worked. In the village where she lived on the Isle of Wight few people went to the Drs anyway, she just copied the things her Mother told her that had been handed down from her Granny. I'm going to have some hot lemon barley shortly to rehydrate my system.
