Well, nice roast dinner made, eaten and cleared up (coz we were too busy yesterday with DS's Nativity play).
All washing up to date and dried, so I might do an ironing catch up tomorrow, but for now I'm sitting with my feet up and going to do some knitting.
Have a good evening everyone. Hugs where necessary and Pigpen, make sure you drink plenty to flush everything out of your system! Glad you've got so many smoke alarms as well! Must get DS to check ours again this week (I think he missed it last week.)
BTW - one of our smoke alarms is a Fire Angel. This is in the study so effectively covers the back of the house. You take a light bulb out, put the Fire Angel in to the light fitting, then the bulb into the Fire Angel. It charges up from the mains so there's no need to replace batteries. I bought it for my DM so inherited it last year. There's also one in the kitchen, and one at the bottom of the stairs, but we need a new one for the utility room. Should we have one upstairs as well? We've got 2 carbon monoxide detectors, one on the landing (gas water boiler in airing cupboard) and one in the kitchen (gas cooker). Should we have one in the lounge for the gas fire?
OK, now I'm getting paranoid, but as Soappie said, we started talking about fires and look what happened.
Pays to be prepared, and thanks to our Illustrious Leader, we should all be checking the batteries regularly!:T
iriedaughter - welcome. Toots will no doubt be along to formally induct you into our merry band, but for now, glad you could join us, we're a friendly lot, and we all started where you are!
But with Pigpen adminstering pink fluffy slippered slaps, we are all getting to grips with turning our hovels into homes! :T
Got to go! There's been a murrrderrrrrrrrrr!

Thanks for all the tips so far. Really like Moggins household manual idea, great tips on that thread and found some great sites with free printables. I was always an organised student with lists and plans etc so will be trying the manual idea - just need to make sure I don't spend more time planning than doing the jobs!!.
I then like the idea of little and often as some of you have mentioned, it's just working out how often things need doing and when we can best fit them in to our life. I don't think we really need to get someone in to clean the place first - I know I said I had a full week off but don't think it would have to be spent totally cleaning. I have plans to cook and bake for the freezer, de-clutter, study and write a presentation for work as well as have some me time. Don't get me wrong my house couldn't be featured on Kim and Aggie! we're not that bad! We just need to be more organised and do certain jobs more often!
Storage is a problem too, we have a fair amount of stuff between us - some needs getting rid of but other stuff (i.e. I have a lot of books/file I need for study/work) needs to be stored better.Mortgage as of Feb 2015 - £153000 (30 years left on term). Aiming to be morgage free in 20 years or less.0 -
A newbie question – how does thanking work and what is the custom on this thread? The work will wait for you to finish showing the LOs the rainbow, but the rainbow would not wait for you to finish the work.0

Evening all,
Just caught up with the thread. What a busy day everyone has had, and welcome to irie - are you a teacher? There are quite a few of us on here.
Pigpen I'm glad that you and your brood are ok and that no-one was seriously hurt.
Mudbath welcome home.
Ladyliberty I'm glad everything went well at the hospital.
I must confess to not doing any flying today as I'm totally creamcrackered after staying up last night waiting for the laundry to finish in the garage. I think I'm going to have an early night in a minute as I like mudbath's description of curly cosy sleepiness and having already fallen asleep on the sofa tonight, I think it's time for bed. I did however, clean the toilet yesterday, and also cleaned the kitchen worktops, sink and hob last night whilst I was waiting for the washing so I'm slightly ahead.
Well, night all,

I normally thank every post as we are a community and all get on so well, but also it helps you to see where you've read up to as well.

Pigpen - glad you're all OK. Good thing your smoke alarms work
. If you put off sorting out the insurance for a few days you should be able to get away without cooking Christms dinner
My utility room now has a ceiling... not sure how it will look when its finished. It's foil-backed polysterene glued to the roof. Hopefully it will be covered by something white. I'm not really sure I want a silver ceiling...
... no sign of the tile issue having been sorted, but he's promised he'll be finished by the weekend :j It'll be so nice to have my house back!
Off to do a bit of ironing and possibly some tidying in the study. It's not much fun in there as the hifi doesn't work (I'm hoping santa will bring me a new one
), and my laptop is currently in the kitchen as I can't get to my desk
Then back to do the washing up and get some of my work paperwork done. It's been a busy day - not much done, but clear signs that due to the credit crunch we're going to have a lot more on. I have to work out budgets for additional consultancy/contractors/temps/permies to cope with it! 0 -

LL - good news that they think the lump is benign. If you have any questions about the hysterectomy feel free to ask - i'll answer if I can. I already think I should have done it years ago!!!!
Mudbath's flying today:
- eaten two choccies from the box so I can declutter it later in the week
- organised a high fibre diet for the following few weeks
I'll have to let my hubby be an honoury fly person. He's done loads whilst i've been in hospital as well as looking after the dogs and the children. Infact, he's been a total star! xx0 -
