Yep, I've added the question onto the older thread (this one) and since posts are normally listed in date order you'll need to read from the beginning to catch up.

i make my own bbq sauce by mixing cheap brown sauce and cheap ketchup from lidl i then add mustard powder and golden syrup

all this is to taste but you generally need only 1/3 the amont of brown sauce to ketchup and you'll need a fair bit of golden syrup. this makes some seriously tasty stuff to, we use it on everything ;)

This is the one we use:-

    3 tablespoons of tomato ketchup
    2 tablespoons worcester sauce
    1 tablespoon soft brown sugar
    1 tablespoon soy sauce
    1/2 teaspoon mustard

Mix it all in a bowl, pour over ribs (rub over them with hands to make sure well coated) then leave to marinate for a couple of hours - or best still do them in the morning and leave them marinating in the fridge all day.

Stick them in the oven on 180c for about 30-40 mins (depending of thickness of ribs).

They really really are delish, my 3 and 2 year old are addicted to them!!

I sometimes double up the amounts to make more sauce, guess it depends how many ribs you are doing and how much sauce you like.

This is the spare rib sauce i use, it is delicious!!!

    6 tbsp soy sauce,
    6 tbsp suger,
    2 tsp ground ginger,
    1 onion peeled and quatered,
3 tbsp wine (i use whatever i have, normally red but white will work)
    1 1/2 pts water.

Put all ingredients in a pan (if using raw meat, add now, if using cooked, can be added after simmering) bring to the boil, then simmer for 45 minutes, turning the meat occassionally. Turn up the heat and boil for 20 minutes (uncovered) to reduce the sauce stiring occassionally, it will become thick and syrupy.
Sauce is enough for about 2lb spare ribs.

    Hi mcelhinney,

We have another thread with lots of recipes for barbeque sauce on it, so I'll merge your thread with it to keep all the recipes together. The posts are listed in date order, so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

The recipe I use is this one from Delia Smith and they are delicious. There are a few good recipes too on this thread:

  • These all sound so yummy, I will be buying some pork ribs this week.

I usually buy bacon ribs and boil them with water - has anyone any suggestions as to adding a sauce to these?

Does anyone have a recipe for delicious chinese spare ribs? I've seen plenty but never found anything that actually matches a good set of dry spare ribs from the takeaway!

Perhaps with this my life will be complete = )

I've never managed to get mine dry but I use Char Sui sauce from the chinese supermarket and roast them slowly in the oven, I love sticky ribs.

I did manage to get the seasoning that makes their pork red the other day, I don't know if this would be the stuff you need?
