there are signs before the last exit and the signs clearly state "cash/TAG only, no cards"

are there? I have never seen them but there again, I know I need money, but it would be helpful if the signs also directed people to where they could get money from such as the services at the old bridge - it's very much local knowledge (that's unless there are signs and I just have not noticed them ;) )
  • yeah there are about 2 signs before the last exit and about 4 saying no cards!! they have always been there! Came through last week so they were definately there then!

But as you say locals know this anyways so you probably don't look at the signs (other than to tut at another price increase!)

  • very true

I have been caught out with not having any cash on me but luckily knew to go to awst services but I reckon lots must get caught out and £80 is very steep if you do
  • £80 is an enormous amount of money to get into Wales.

It is a shame that in this day and age, with somebody genuinely stuck, there isn't a facility to pay online with paypal and a laptop/satellite connection or something. Even if it were £10 or £20 to do that rather than the standard £5.30 for a car. I presume they have to take the person holding everybody up to one side/corner ... although I've no idea what the procedure is.

It is a long way back to Bristol from there, especially if you don't know where to head for once you get there to obtain cash/whatever. I try to put the cash in my ashtray before I leave Wales, so if I forget to do that there's a chance I might remember before I come back.
  • the signs aren't very clear.
we drove across, got to the pay point, had no cash, had to be escorted like immigrants to the other side & refused entry, they took a photo of our car (?!), had to drive all the way back across the bridge to get money, only to do the whole journey again. looked out for sign BEFORE exit... never saw it. though there was one after...

  • they CAN'T accept credit/debit cards, or insert chip and pin machines because the LEGISLATION which allowed the bridge to be built (and run and maintained since) doesn't allow it!

as your friend lives in Wales, they should know about the tolls. how did he not have money for the toll and for petrol? what if he'd run out in the middle of the motorway?

which side of the bridge did he leave his brain on?
