  • This is a great thread!

My ideas are similar to those mentioned -

Avoid tesco [like the plauge!] and go to grocers and butchers
Make more stuff like cushions, toys, cards etc
    Ebay/garage sale my silly junk
Bake more goodies, make bread, freeze more leftovers
Organize myself inside a diary, so to speak
Grow more veg (we have a huge, so far unused, garden) & get more chickens
    Make do and mend!
Use my areas Freecycle even more - this has been an invaluable way of getting things like beds, audio equipment and furniture for FREE!

But... also I want to give up smoking :S I will only save £5.30 a week but I might have more time to do veg/craft/garden and I WONT SMELL ANYMORE!!

I also want to have non TV nights where we play our instruments - sounds a little medieval, but the kids have trumpets, keyboards, recorders and harmonicas and I have my guitars, so it might be a good opportunity to tie in family bonding with music practice :)

I must also really watch what Im buying on ebay, and only use paypal funds from stuff Ive sold to then buy other things. This is my biggest and baddest area of unknown spending amounts.

*To those who are losing weight: about 15 years ago I did the Rosemary Conlley hip and thigh diet, it was my mums book so must have been an original version maybe from the eighties. It set me up for ever after with a great way of eating & excercising, had cheap, easy and sensible meals in it which I could adapt the principles of to other menus, and I went from 11 and a half stone to 9 and a half stone and although Ive had 3 kids since I did it, I managed to maintain that weight without really thinking about diets ever again. Hope it works for someone else xx

Hi, as I have recently become single, things are going to be a bit tight for a while, so my OS resolutions are:

    1. Organise cccs plan
    2. Meal plan and batch cook for the month (I am finding it very difficult to cook for 1)
    3. (Try to) be more organised
    4. Keep a spend diary
    5. Loose weight big style

I think 5 is enough or I'll end up not doing any of them :rotfl:

    Great post Lalaladybird!

I'm jumping back on the MS wagon after 6 months of ‘stuff’ got in the way – I’m going to rein myself back in by:

Meal planning and cooking from scratch – rejoin the GC thread for the fantastic help and support on there

Track spending on a daily basis – using spendingdiary.com to do this. Stop carrying so much cash and my cards to make me think before spending.

Pay off a couple of debts by the end of February, then start saving regularly.

Make Christmas and birthday pressies cost-neutral with money earned from doing surveys.

De-clutter spare bedroom and my clothes!

I know that these resolutions are similar to many already posted on this thread, but putting it in writing does help to focus you doesn’t it!

    Good luck to everyone.

    Happy new year guys!

Well I have posted already about my stardrops new years resolution, and now I can proudly add that I am now awaiting my mr breadmaker. I had to stop handbaking as my fibromyalgia meant my hands and arms were too painful to do the kneading and I resorted to buying shop bread yuk!

I am hoping my allotment will be a success and maybe I can grow some strawberries and make jam in the breadmaker!

I'm back to washing powder as the soapnuts and vinegar just weren't doing the job but I buy Asda own alternative to Bold so it is a little saving none the less.

I'm going to stock up my store cupboard and meal plan more, plus I want to start making home made pressies for birthdays and start a 12 month plan for next christmas and try and factor ina short break in the summer if poss. I need to learn some crafts, I couldn't get on with knitting so maybe decoupage and scrapbooking. I have saved all my christmas cards so I shall search for ideas on hopw to make new cards out of them and some decs or labels.

Any other things I can do to save money? All suggestions gladly received!! I I'm a big slow cooker fan and use up my leftovers but I'm sure there is a lot more I could do!
