I need some serious inspiration to get back on track with my resolutions already and it's only March (tomorrow ;)) My spending is out of control and I've been wasteful and have been ignoring my seeds  My diet was over before it even began.... I have managed to keep up with my house cleaning resolutions and I have been a bit more organised!:j

This thread was so inspiring so I'm bumping it back up to find out how you are all getting on with your resolutions?

I guess its late for me to be adding mine - but as i am a newbie of just a few weeks - i hope no one minds.

My late MSE new year resolutions are
    • To use up more leftovers and to waste less food
    • To reduce our grocery spend by leaving OH at home and shopping alone and with a list
    • To turn off lights and appliances more when rooms are not in use
    • To turn down the heating and wear more jumpers
    • To bake and try not to buy anything that can be made from scratch
    • Goal - to over pay the BIG mortgage for the first time ever this year.

  • Great thread - I knew there must be one somewhere!

    In 2009 I'd like to:

Get more organised with regard to meal planning.
Inventory my larder, storecupboard and freezer, and take part in the storecupboard challenge regularly
Resurrect the "Don't throw food away" challenge that was going on earlier in the year - anyone know where the thread has gone?
Have a go at making birthday / anniversary cards for people - I've always fancied trying it.
Grow more stuff to eat. We have barely any space for this so there are going to be some containers on the go!
Do more home made gifts for christmas next year - the ones we did this year went down SO well! I was really proud!
Make gifts rather than buying when we go to visit friends for dinner etc.
Have at least one night each week where the TV doesn't go on.
    Continue with decluttering....
Finally finish decorating the spare room - preferably ahead of the planned visit from my friend who helped us start the process about three years ago - that's in late January!

OK - with the NEXT new year looming, it must be time for those of us who took part in this last year to assess how we did?

I have been quite good with the meal planning - I'm really pleased with that, likewise the freezer inventory which has worked quite well.
I have slipped a little recently on the not throwing food away thing - I need to reinstate that for next years resolutions.
The card making has been a bit so-so - I've done a few but also bought a few. 50% of the way there though and I aim to continue next year.
The growing stuff to eat hasn't gone brilliantly although in fairness having scaffold up from the end of the summer to the current time hasn't made that easy. We did have tomato plants again and got a few off them , although I'm not convinced enough to make it worth having them again.
Home made gifts - also gone pretty well, a lemon cake we made for friends was pronounced delicious and we have put together hampers and mini hampers for people for christmas this year that involve jars of chutney, picallili and marmalade!
The TV free night has been adhered to religiously right through the year! :D
Decluttering - hmm, well another so-so one I think.
And finally - the spare room was done in the nick of time for my friend visiting and looks lovely!

How did everyone else get on? I guess it's time to start thinking of next year's......! ;)

I think about 50% of the tasks on our 2009 Action List were completed so we can probably award ourselves a B-. The uncompleted ones will be rolled over and I'm still cogitating what else to add. My first resolution though, will be "Always tackle the most unpleasant chores first thing in the morning when my engery and enthusiasm levels are higher".
I like the sound of a TV free night once a week but in this house we would also have to have a Computer Free night. With two laptops connected to the internet and the lure of these forums, we can become quite antisocial at times !
  • What a great thread! Will there be a similar one for 2010, or will it carry on in this thread at all? Id love to join!
  • great reslutions heres mine
    • get more organised
    • get a rountine for life and housework
    • reduce shopping bill and food waste by menu planning and patch cooking
    • lose weight
    • improve my apperance i really need some new clothes
    • plan for xmas early and save time and money
i'm sure there lot more but can't think of them at the mo i made a resultion to get organised last year and i'm not organised but much better
  • i have made myself a little list of 'aims' for 2010, and i am hoping to stick to most of them:

    * meal planning & batch cooking
    * no buying bread, cakes or biccies- all homemade
    * start a household organizer- i have bought a page a day diary from poundstretcher to help me with this, and have started making various sections in a lever arch folder
    * to keep to the household budget 95% of the time- bf and i are moving in together after christmas, so this is important as i will obviously come off benefits so things will be tight
    * to pass my driving test- i already have a car which is taxed, mot'd and insured for a year and it galls me that it is sitting outside and i can't use it and still have to pay for the bloomin bus lol
    * to keep to a cleaning routine- i have started looking at the flylady thread and taking notes
    * to try one new recipe a week from this site
    * to make all gifts for family birthdays and christmas- have already started to put together a relaxation basket for bf's mums birthday next month
    * the final one, which is a real toughie but has to be done....quit smoking. its bad for me, the kids, bf, and most importantly, our pockets!!!

my big thing is just to become generally o/s and mse throughout the next year- my bf loves my hm bread and proper dinners, and he loves the budget i have made for us based on when he moves in, so fingers crossed i am on to a winner! :)
    2011- new year, new start.

Good morning all, I hope you are not too affected by all this snow, I have saved a fortune these past few days as I have not been able to leave the house! So new years resolutions, it may help me if I have them recorded and made public, lol!
    Here are mine:

    1. lose weight
    2. get my house more organised
    3. hopefully pay off all my debts by Dec 2010
    4. Save up for xmas next year
    5. reduce my internet time, esp facebook!!!!!
    6. Try and have only 1 takeaway a month instead of every other day : (

That is all I can think of at the moment, just got to focus............

    Here are mine, as usual:

1 - Maintain the aerobics habit to at least twice per week

    2 - Keep decluttering

3 - For any one item that comes into the house (only strictly necessary purchase) two items to go out (charity shop, freecycle etc...) this includes books and CDs.

4 - More self TLC (as opposite of always putting everybody else in the family before my needs!).

These would be a good start for me!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Hi, hope it's OK to add mine, might make them a bit more clear in my mind too!

-Plan backwards from Christmas 2010; we want to have a Victorian Christmas next year, it'll be fun for us to do with the kids, so will plan to start organising that early enough on that we don't just half-heartedly produce one tree decoration by Dec 25th!
-batch-bake, batch-cook, label, freeze and rotate!
-get out more. I got outdoor gear for the kids this year for one relative's Christmas gift, so that I can tog 'em up and get 'em out. We live by the beach, we love trees and plants and slugs and stuff, there's no excuse to sit at home watching telly.
-use our electricity monitor ALL the time; it makes me really aware of how much we're paying per hour!
-get Grandma no.2's nativity scene made early on in the year, so I'm not panicking to get it finished for Christmas.
-meal-plan EVERY week, not just once in a blue moon!
-make sure I stay off the Grabbit board on MSE, and keep looking on here to see what all the sensible people are doing! Oooh... that's a difficult one!
    -
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick @ss.... and I'm all out of bubblegum.
