I am lucky as I have a really nice postman, and delivers before 10.30am.. I have had a few items go missing from ebay, but not blaming him as who knows where it went astray or even if sellers sent them..

Postman do a wonderful job and people who think its easy go to the royal mail vacancy section and read the job description I couldnt or wouldnt be tempted to apply for a job like that..

They deliver in all weathers and yes the strike is a pain and maybe they could wait til after xmas but would they get the reaction they do at the mo, no as people wont be so interested about missing a days post as they wont be waiting for items to be delivered by a certain day..

I have read stories about dodgy postman and postwomen taking items, but they are a small majority agaisnt the amount of postal workers who do a grand job.

Its like plane and train crashes, we hear about them and they then go on about the safety of them, what we never hear about is how so many arrive safely..

I will be peronally handing my postmen a tip this year as he deserves it for delivering all my freebies, and ebay items, and delivering my bills safely will let him off that one..lol.. Does anybody know what roughly you should leave as a tip, no rude remarks if you are anti rm please..

isnt the fact we have to wait til next day to pick up a parcel from sorting office due to the fact our postworkers wont be back til after 1.30pm which is when my sorting office closes, hence why I have to wait til nexy day..

Thats the only thing I dislike about rm that the sorting office closes at 1.30pm, not so bad now though as you can rebook to have delivered again at a day that suits you, or for 50p get it taken to a post office near you for pick up..

items are 'pouched off' at post offices

Yeah, it means that they actually have to do a hard days work for a change and probably won't get to the pub by 1pm as usual.
Oh really...and i doubt you'll last a single day doing a 13 hour shift i do ..i don't mind because i take home 500 plus a week . It's hard work and good pay so i can't complain but only a few can do it...and you my friend aint one of them...

you realise the post isnt 'late'
if posties arent allowed to start their duty till a later time then the post arrives at a later time
i used to be on my delivery by 8am
gradually with the changes its more often 10am or later
add in the new lapsing/flexibility where you do another part of a duty often miles from your own then i can be on my own duty at 11am!! so thats me just starting

Hi, I also said its not the postmans fault and nobody blames them. I was talking about the constant changes to Royal Mail and you never know when you will get your post. I was responding to the previous post from Oor Wullie expressing his disbelief that someone dare question him on postage times. For what its worth I think we have a very good postal service considering its huge under funding and think the money the Government is suggesting to use on Jaguar would be much better invested in our postal service and benefit us all rather than making sure some old fart can still buy his overpriced nob extension of a car!

ah zenseeker, i think u will find the official finishing time is 1:17pm for part time posties, so why shouldn't they go down the pub afterwards? After all they are only getting paid until 1.17... unless ofc they are late out the office and have a reason to be late finishing their rounds, and then they will get paid for the extra time they put in...OFC i couldn't tell u the last time i actually finished work when i was supposed to, like most ppl i like to prepare to make my job easier the next day, even if that means an extra 10 mins in the office at night.

All packages should be pouched off the the post offices which can't be delivered, unfortunately for our office that means it can take 48 hrs for the parcels to get back to delivery offices, hence why a lot of posties bring them back themselves. You will probably find that in the run up to xmas (not sure if this is regional or national) that delivery to the post office is free :)

have no idea why a ? is after your address, maybe the postie was thinking ahead and knew u were going to post here and was giving u something to ask about :D

And a final word to the posties, Enjoy the xmas bonus sensibly

Recently he has been off sick and I have had 4 items go astray and one item worth £40 mis delivered to a (luckily) honest neighbour. A parcel was left on my doorstep which was picked up by me so I am assuming the other items were mis delivered or left outside and picked up by a passer by. To say the postie stole them would be totally unfair, it seems that he was either too lazy or not trained. I passed my comments to the local office and since then I have had other posties and not had any more problems. Based on this experience I would never accuse all posties of being lazy or dishonest is really unfair as my regular postie takes pride in his work. Some of the others bring treats for my dog. :D

Having a rant here, but the postie left a parcel outside and never knocked on the door or rang the doorbell. Also, as it was raining all day today, the whole parcel was soaked. If I had not gone out today, the parcel may have been picked up by someone or worse condition than it already is.

hi my contract is from 9-2pm and in our office no one is allowed to leave until 9am so someone else has to throw up my round for me before he can do his own round and leave.Every office is different
