Royal Mail one day Strike 19th December

Well I for one love royal mail, they're one of the most competent big organisations.
I've had things delivered to me even though I have changed address and name twice from what was on the label! Also things sent by numpty ebay sellers with the underpaid postage stickers on that get a blind eye turned to them by our posties, stuff left in a safe place in plastic bags, two deliveries if things get forgotten, and all this with a cheery service. I don't want to sound like we've got postman pat working our route but sometimes it feels like it
I have had stuff go missing but it is a small percentage, and to be honest with the sheer volume of mail going through the system it is not a surprise. Closing sorting offices will not help in the slightest, if you want less things to get lost then you need more people not less, simple maths :rolleyes:This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.0 -
The following article gives some information about the strikes in 2007, if any of you posties have forgotten about the 20% pay increases that (the union)you wanted:
http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/transport/article2588213.ece
& before any of you start about the national average wage being £395 a week back then, remember that the current minimum wage is only £5.73 per hour for workers aged 22 and over.
If you say an average working week would be around 35 hours, people on the minimum wage would get £200.55, yet postal workers wanted near enough double that for an unskilled job, let alone the company pensions etc they already have on top of the decent enough wage they already get!
I know the current strike was about moving the sorting centres,
but I have already made my point on that. If they can move a sorting centre and save 600 jobs, in my opinion these workers are doing an unnecessary job in the first place and it is practices like these that means that Royal Mail is in such a mess that it is today.
bear in mind that just like the UK's voting system(excluding Scotland ) you dont always get what you vote for
majority rules
so dont say posties wanted.the union wanted and lets be honest was never going to get
as ive said before (for the last strikes)i was never in favour of the streikes and voted accordingly however the option of a work to rule was never offered which IMHO gives RM a headache without the negative effects of the publics viewpoint
however there would be massive delays/failures in the post under a work to rule it would at least show how tight RM run things0 -
I don't know the ins and out of the postal dispute, but felt I had to comment.
My daughter and I get quite a bit of post, and generally get what we should.
I would not want to be a postie, out and about in all weathers, especially lately when it's been so cold first thing in the morning, its been cold at 8.30 am when I leave the house, goodness knows what its like earlier!
I also am glad that I live in a democracy where people can strike and make their voice heard.
Now I've had my say, I will take this chance to say "Happy Christmas (and yes I did post early as they recommend).
Here's to a good new year and may those freebies keep coming!!Growing old disgracefully!0 -
I can never understand why people moan at the postman for being late. I mean , if a train left the station at 9.00 am everyday and the next week it left at 10.00 am. following some peoples logic , that would rant and rave at the train driver and blame him. Well i'm off to spend my vouchers now..:rotfl:0

You cant understand why people moan about postmen being late!!! Its obvious isnt it, it makes the rest of us late if we are waiting for something. However we all know its not the postmans fault. I would go mental if suddenly in December my work load increased by 1000%0

Yeah, it means that they actually have to do a hard days work for a change and probably won't get to the pub by 1pm as usual. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -

you realise the post isnt 'late'
if posties arent allowed to start their duty till a later time then the post arrives at a later time
i used to be on my delivery by 8am
gradually with the changes its more often 10am or later
add in the new lapsing/flexibility where you do another part of a duty often miles from your own then i can be on my own duty at 11am!! so thats me just starting0 -
Can I ask again what does it mean when there is a question mark on the front of the letter when all the name and address is correct?0
