You will settle down ladybird, once your milk supply evens out...

Just doing the Asda shop, the tommee tippee stuff is reduced for the baby event but can't find half of the stuff I wanted online... Might have to actually leave the house and go shopping... Or maybe send DH....
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

I don't think any woman would chose pain relief for any reason other than to cope with pain? I don't think any woman choses to drug up thier baby.

SIL had trouble BF'ing her first, because he was so sleepy. I've not had chance to talk to her yet, but she didn't have pethidine with this one, so I'm hoping she has managed to BF, she really wanted to.

Pain relief, I'm hoping I'll manage with paracetamol. :rotfl: Don't really have any alternative!

I had peth with number 3 - did absolutely nothing for me as far as pain was concerned :( (m/w says it doesn't always) However, bubs was vv sleepy that day - but they still let me out that afternoon as he was number 3 and I was coping ok (I was expressing drops of colostrum into his mouth every hour or so (my decision to do so) and they were more than happy for me to carry on like that at home) He then had no problems at all with b/feeding - was exclusively b/f until weaned at 6 months and then carried on being b/f until 2 years 10 and a bit months

I think if I hadn't been so obviously unconcerned and happy to try and feed every so often (I couldn't sleep cos the woman next to me was snoring so much - and was even sleeping through here newborn crying  ) and I was a 3rd time mum (& 3rd time bfeeder) it might have been different. I think I only had the m/w visit me 3x over the next 10 days too, before signing me over to HV - I had a couple of phone calls to see if I really wanted a visit but they were happy to leave me alone :D

You really don't know whether you'll cope or not until the time comes Skinty.

There are thousands of women who don't want pain relief, but when it boils down to it, they have it because they just can't cope.

Oh yes! My first birth plan was water birth with TENS beforehand and gas & air whilst in water. WIth a (missed) breech I wasn't allowed a water birth and had masses of gas and air and was advised to have an epidural - I had 2 (both with top ups) - none of which worked (first one was anaesthetist's fault - tube sent wrong way:eek: - he blamed me  ) and I felt all my contractions (although I guess they were softened slightly, but they were definitely still painful!!!) I then ended up with a spinal block for my c-section as the epidural hadn't worked (spinal block was great - can't remember who was concerned about it. It worked well for me - although I immediately threw up when they gave it to me - a side effect of lowered bp, I think they said) Because of my cs I then had voltarol suppositories for 3 days and codeine based tablets for a week, before going on to paracetamol for a few more days.

I don't *do* pain relief in general - I take maybe 3-4 paracetamol a year maximum, and avoid things like anti inflammatories (like ibuprofen) like the plague. However, you really don't know what it will be like until you're there. And unexpected events can also happen :)

    Oh Fcuk a duck!

Just got an email from Marks n Sparks, they couldn't process my payment :(

Seems they don't accept Electron or Solo, so there goes my comfy outfits! (I just put it through as 'Visa' as that's the symbol on my card)

I may just have to drag Steve to Liverpool at the weekend to hit the big M&S there ;)

I want to go to Ikea too, for nothing in particular.....well apart from a couple of hot dogs at the end, how sad is that! :o :rotfl:

    morning!

Our window fitters are here, and they are smoking in the house.

Just wondered how assertive you'd be while pregnant about people smoking near you?

Obviously if you are a smoker or your OH is, then that's something you've entered into willingly, and is down to personal choice. I just wondered if anyone agrees that this feels a bit like it's been thrust upon me!;)

 Tell them NO - it's your house, your rules. And you're pregnant. I can't believe they are smoking inside without asking. I have never had a workman do that at all. We have 2 here (smokers) doing our loft atm - tehy go out and have a smoke and a cuppa every couple of hours.

Well that's it isn't it, I just don't like to see people want and expect something, when the total opposite could happen.

For home births, Mum or baby could get into difficulty so need to be rushed to hospital so the ideal chilled birth at home may turn out to be a rushed frantic birth at the hospital after all.

(Skinty, if you're reading, don't forget, anything could happen as your pregnancy progresses so you may be advised against a home birth, if for example the baby is breech, or you have placenta previa like myself, so there would be no way then you could have a home birth as you wouldn't be able to give birth naturally)

As with pain relief. No woman knows what her labour is going to be like. No woman chooses to 'drug her baby', but if Mum is coping well, then baby will be better off. Better than Mum getting all distressed because she can't cope with the pain because baby can get distressed too.

I think with giving birth, it's a great idea to have a plan, BUT the most important thing is to remember that your plan may have to go out of the window when it comes to the crunch!

Some women want pain relief and can't have it when it comes to it........nobody can possibly know what will happen beforehand, so always be prepared for the worst. (pain relief if you don't want it and none if you do lol!)

My ideal birth would be an ouch and ooohh and 2 small squeezes! :D (Oh and no stitches!)

LOL! Esp on the no stitches part!!! I'm not bothering with a birth plan this time around. I sort of wrote one for no 2 and didn't for no 3 (other than making everyone aware of spd). Makes little difference in my case anyway - consultant won't look at anything other than delivery suite birth - with full monitoring throughout :(
